The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 8

“Yeah, we can se that,” Alice replied.

Tina cleared her throat and said, “I uh… I’ve got something else to tell you.”

Dana’s dark brown eyes grew wide and with her long brown hair pulled back into a ponytail, she looked like a cuddly cartoon character. “What is it?”

Tina sighed. “It’s Eric. I ran into him yesterday.”

    “Get out!” Alice exclaimed.

    “I’m serious.”

“You really saw him? So that was really him that night?” asked Dana.

“Yeah. I ran into him in the laundry room. He’s really living in the building.”

Alice frowned and leaned on her elbow, “Does he…does he know about you and Bette?”

Tina shook her head in response. “No. And I didn’t mention it.”

“Did you tell Bette?” asked Dana.

“I did. She told me not to tell him.”

Now Alice was surprised and her dilated pupils reflected her confusion. “She did?”

    Tina sighed. “Yeah, she did.”

Dana nibbled on a slice of bacon and wondered aloud, “Bette Porter told you not to tell him? Is that a good thing?”

“I’m hoping that it is,” Tina replied.

At the 7 Avenue / 53rd Street stop, she chewed on her lip and nodded to herself that she was nearly there and that she would in fact be early. When the moving vessel slowed to her stop at 42nd Street, she smiled to herself, proud of her newly-tested navigational skills and stepped off the train when the vehicle finally slowed to a complete stop. With a triumphant bounce in her step, Bette made her way to the street and stood there on the sidewalk for a moment, looking around and absorbing her new location. Squinting against the sun, she lifted her right hand to block the glare of the sunlight as she marveled at the buildings around her.

As traffic rushed past the tall and sun-bronzed young woman, the sounds of hurried tires on heated pavement, business conversations, gentle chatter, and city-grade white noise flowed around her. The humid air, carrying with it traces of car fumes and human life-living smells, hung around her head and planted itself inside her nasal passages.

After a brief, but jarring bump from a completely absorbed man in a business suit with a blue-tooth headset attached to his ear, Bette was pulled back into the reality of the hustle and bustle of Times Square in early afternoon and huffed before shooting the unapologetic young man an evil glance.

    1. These girls are just so into each other they’re having trouble staying focused. I agree with bombasticbully. There is drama up ahead!! I love your long posts. Thanks for sharing your talent with us once again. PPS

    2. MTS–I’m sensing drama on the horizon in the guise of Debbie and Eric! Let’s get Bette and Tina together in LA sooner than the 2 weeks! I’m holding up a banner in hopes that will happen. PPS

    3. You know that summer is over with and schools are back in session? Bette and Tina are trying so hard to survive with this long distance between them. Please help them to continue to want to stay together.

    4. Awww MTS, you just made our day brighter! B’s reunion with Damon was very charming. They have been through a lot and they are sincerely bonded as close friends. Hmmm As for B meeting Debbie in the flesh, it was quite an experience for her, as they both share the same uncomprehension from some members of their families. Janice is being more perceptive of her daughter and we could appreciate her concern about B missing his father. B&T’s conversation was so sweet and honest, as usual. We smiled when Tina’s green monster of jealousy was so evident, while learning about Debbie. But above all, you can breathe and feel the magic of their love. You are taking us into a wonderful ride. Thanks for this marvellous update, MTS. We truly enjoyed it! PPS Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)

    6. Hello MTS, Great to have another wonderful piece of this puzzle from Your. I just adore the reality of Bette and Tina’s love for each other here. These girls so belong, willingly, to each other. There is not a question of that. And it is something that everyone around them can realize. David saw it, Debbie saw and even Gina saw it. They are so affected by each other that even 3000 miles can not quench their love and attraction. The night time calls are so sweet and precious. Can’t wait to reac more of this terrific tale. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
