The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 9

    You know that moment.

But that classic cinematic moment, was not the moment shared by Bette Porter and Tina Kennard upon their reconciliation on the descending metallic staircase.

There was no hesitation. No moment of building anticipation. Nearly two months of distance and 2000 miles was long enough to build anticipation and once the two women locked eyes, there was only one primary motivating factor: need.

Tina slid her arms around her girlfriend’s waist, her heart racing at the contact. She smiled even as her painted lips trembled. Bette slid her slender fingers into her lover’s flaxen locks and held up Tina’s head so that their teary eyes would meet. And then she leaned in and softly kissed her soul-mate’s lips with a tenderness reserved only for their shared interaction. Finding the shining tile floors now beneath their feet, Tina grabbed her lover’s hand and they migrated toward a shadowy spot, away from the crowd and gawking onlookers.

Bette’s hands found themselves resting comfortably on her lover’s hips as they stood face-to-face, now inches apart.

“I missed you so much”, Bette whispered.

“I missed you more,” Tina replied, her shining hazel eyes now studying the woman before her. Afraid to miss a detail. Afraid that this moment was another one of her dreams and that she would soon awake, feeling cheated and lonesome.

But this was no dream. This was real. Elizabeth Porter had arrived in the city of angels. The soft, smooth skin had browned to a savory shade of golden honey in the summer sun and the characteristically curly locks were now straightened, but it was her nevertheless.

A set of dark brown eyes slowly clouded as Bette’s brow furrowed and she asked, “What’s wrong, T?”

Tina shook her head in response, her eyes never leaving the brown, rounded windows to her girlfriend’s soul. “Nothing’s wrong. I just can’t believe you’re here. It feels like a dream.”

Bette smiled softly and leaned her forehead against Tina’s. “I’m real, T. I’m really here.”

Hazel eyes crinkled before Tina whispered in return, “Then what the hell are we doing standing here in the airport? Let’s get you home.”

Tina grabbed her lover’s hand to lead them away and towards the baggage carousel, but Bette refused to move. The dark-haired woman simply stood in place, a soft smile still painted across her lips. Tina felt the tug of dead weight and looked back to meet her girlfriend’s gaze.

    1. It’s been so long, but i’m very glad that you decided to continue this story. Thank you!

I’m post again later about this chapter, when i’ll read it.

    2. I have read all the chapters from start to finish. I know this was eleven years in the making. It was a very good story line however, your ending was rather abrupt and incomplete. Is Bette dying here? Or will she make a recovery and go on with her life with Tina? Although it appears to be serious it could be easily treated and just a bump in the weekend for Bette and Tina.

I appreciate your putting this chapter out. I very much would like to see the story continue to a more natural ending such as to wedding of Bette and Tina or to a break-up which they believe is where they want to be or where ever you believe the story will go. But to leave your reader at the entry of the hospital with Bette in a crisis mode and with Tina standing there seeing her lover in pain and agony? The end?

Your writing is very good. I hope you will do more and more often. Thank you for your efforts.

      • Martha, it’s the third part of Roommates. Like i understand it’s the end only of this part, but author wrote about that this story will continue in next part – “The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019”
