“I did.”
“What took you so long to tell me you loved me?”
“I had to be sure of you and I had to make sure you were sure of me.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that before?”
“I didn’t think it mattered. We were together,” Bette said plainly.
Are, Tina thought.
They stared into each other’s eyes.
One heartbeat.
Two heartbeats.
Three heartbeats.
Four heartbeats.
Five heartbeats.
Tina noticed the desire in Bette’s eyes. Bette licked her lips. Tina licked her lips.
Six heartbeats.
Seven heartbeats.
Eight heartbeats.
Nine heartbeats.
Ten heartbeats.
“Tell me something else you’ve never shared before,” Bette finally said.
Tina bit her lip.
“Ummm…” Tina looked up to the left.
Bette watched the thoughts dance across Tina’s cute forehead. She wondered what else Tina hadn’t shared with her over the years.
“Oooh. You’re going to find this hilarious.”
Bette’s eyes smiled.
“I am?”
“You most definitely are.”
Bette laughed.
“What is it?”
“Okay,” Tina giggled.
“So, after we had sex for the first time, Alice gave me a talking to.”
Tina paused. Bette’s eyes got big.
“She what?”
Bette looked mortified. Tina giggled.
“Oh yeah.”
“What did this talking to consist of?”
“Wait for it…”
Bette was smiling because Tina was smiling but she was very curious what Alice said to Tina and why neither of them had mentioned it before.
“So, apparently everyone knew you were head over heels for me.”
“I…” Bette began to deny it.
“You just told me you fell in love with me the moment you laid eyes on me.”
“Okay. Yeah. I was definitely smitten from the start.”
“Smitten, she says after admitting you were head over heels in love with me…”
“I mean…I wouldn’t say head over heels…”
This time Tina raised her eyebrows.
“Okay. Fine. I was head over heels in love with you from the very moment I saw you.”
“Right. So, apparently everyone knew you were in love with me.”
“Everyone?” Bette was surprised.
“They know you. And it seems like I was the first person you waited to have sex with…ever.”
Bette cleared her throat. That was true. Tina giggled.
“Anyways…so, do you remember Alice outing us at The Planet the morning after we had sex?”
Bette nodded and rolled her eyes.

Exquisite writing, honestly! I’d like to say so much more, and analyze more but simply do not have enough words as a non-native EN speaker. I could just die and go to heaven with this story of yours.
