The Slow Burn
Tina: You’re impossible, you know that?
Bette: Only when it comes to you.
Tina rolls out of bed, her heart already feeling the excitement buzzing in her chest. As she brushes her hair and picks out her outfit, she hums softly, knowing that in just a little while, she’ll be walking into their favorite bookshop and straight into Bette’s waiting arms.
The Cozy Bookshop
Bette stands at the entrance of the small bookshop, her hands tucked into the pockets of her light jacket. The soft gray morning is muted by the drizzle, and the rain speckled glass reflects the warm glow from inside the shop. The scent of freshly brewed coffee drifts out every time the door swings open. The rhythmic patter of rain fills the quiet street as she shifts on her feet, glancing at her watch. Looking up just in time, she spots Tina approaching, sheltered beneath a navy blue umbrella.
For a moment, Bette just watches her. The way raindrops cling to the edges of her umbrella, the way damp strands of hair curl softly against her face. The sight of her, wrapped in her favorite raincoat, a gentle smile playing on her lips, makes Bette’s chest tighten in the best way possible.
Bette (smiling softly): There you are. I was starting to think I’d have to send out a search party.
Tina steps closer, and Bette instinctively opens her arms. Their embrace is warm, unhurried, as if neither of them is in a rush to let go.
Tina (muffled against Bette’s shoulder): Mmm….., you smell like coffee and cinnamon.
Bette (teasing): I’ve been loitering inside to stay warm. Come on.
They step into the shop, immediately enveloped by the scent of books and roasted coffee. The soft murmur of pages turning and quiet conversations fills the space. Bette reaches for Tina’s hand, threading their fingers together as they wander between the shelves.
Tina (running her fingers along a row of books): It’s kind of romantic, isn’t it? All these stories, all these people leaving little pieces of themselves in the pages.
Bette: I’d say it’s the second most romantic thing in this shop.
Tina (grinning): And the first?
Bette (squeezing her hand, voice softer): You and me.
Tina blushes but doesn’t let go of Bette’s hand. They stop at a small display of poetry books, flipping through the pages and reading passages to each other in hushed voices.

One of my favorite lines – “We’d be the dog eared page someone can’t bear to forget. A story that lingers, long after the last word is read. The kind that refuses to fade, because love like this doesn’t belong to time it belongs to forever.” Exactly Bette & Tina.
I’m loving their romantic, sweet interactions. The Slow Burn – I’m here for it. Worried about what Henry will do…
Great story!
Thank you so much
That line is one of my favorites too I really wanted to capture the kind of timeless, unforgettable love Bette and Tina share. I’m so happy you’re enjoying the slow burn and their growing connection. And yes, Henry is definitely the dark cloud looming over their sunshine. Things are about to get even more intense.
Love this story! Can’t wait to read about all the challenges ahead :(
Thank you so much I’m so glad you’re enjoying the story. The road ahead is filled with twists, turns, and tender moments can’t wait to share what’s coming next
Hello, I love this fic. I almost had a heart attack when I read the first chapter, I thought it was going to be a softer beginning. I love their beginning story though. I have a feeling that Henry is going to get aggressive with Tina in an effort to show her they should be together. If not that he will probably try to set Bette up, so Tina thinks she is cheating. I hope she can see through an attempt like that. If he does get aggressive with Tina, I hope Bette catches him in the act and kicks his butt. I am thoroughly enjoying this, please continue.
Thank you so much I know the first chapter came in like a storm definitely not the soft beginning you might’ve expected But I’m so glad you’re loving Bette and Tina’s origin story.
And wow, you’re very on point with your predictions Let’s just say Henry’s not done causing trouble, but Bette’s not backing down either. There are some intense moments ahead, but also a lot of growth,
Thank you again for reading and sharing your thoughts it truly means the world More coming soon.
