“Look, you know I hate this as much as you do but… considering my family’s history I understand why she’s doing it” Helena said sounding really sad and defeated.

“I know sweetie but what happened to your father was different and, you know, that period of time was different… we have the best and most honest members of the NY Police Department watching over our shoulders and working in this case, plus the FBI’s Witness Protection Unit is also involved. What’s next? Calling the Marines to watch us sleep?” Alice said trying to once again make a point.

“Well Al she’s not giving in and… who knows, maybe she’s right, maybe she’s sensing something. I mean this case is gaining publicity by the minute, public opinion is starting to be aware of what we’re cooking here… maybe it’s for the best to also have more FBI watching our backs” Tina said calmly for she knew that it didn’t matter now, the decision had been made so she might as well get used to it.

“And what about our families?” Alice asked still concerned about her parents living in LA.

“Starting tomorrow they will all have security details provided by local police departments and FBI… and so will we apparently” Helena softly replied.

Alice just nodded, her lungs refilling with air at the realization that her family would be safe. She didn’t care much about what could happen to her, she knew the risks and she embraced them every day as she woke up, or closed her eyes before falling asleep in the night. That was her choice, but it wasn’t her mother’s or her father’s choice to suffer and die for a cause they didn’t devote their lives to. They didn’t deserve to die for Alice’s convictions even though those convictions might be shared by them, still it wasn’t their choice.

“It’s gonna be ok… we’re gonna be ok, we’re gonna pull this thing off and we’ll get those mother fuckers, you’ll see” Tina said trying to sound as brave as ever for she also had a big family in North Carolina.

“So how is Jen handling all of this?” Alice asked Helena, suddenly remembering that out of them three the blue eyed woman was the only one currently in a relationship.
