    Turning Page

Helena heavily sighed before giving her answer as if by doing so she would be anticipating what she would actually put into words.

“Not well… I mean we’ve talked about this many times before and in theory she’s always been one hundred percent behind me and even proud of what we’re trying to pull here. But the other day, seeing the destruction in our house… I don’t know, I think it suddenly became real. The threat was there and, you know, she’s scared and somewhat distant, I cannot blame her really” Helena said really disappointed and with a certain amount of fear in her speech, fear of losing the one woman she ever truly loved.

Both Tina and Alice remained silent, not really knowing what to say to their longtime friend since there really wasn’t much to say. They all knew the risks when they decided to get involved in the job and became even more aware of them when they decided to start building a mega case against mafia members.

“And how about Eric?” Helena asked trying to break the heaviness of the silence that seemed to have taken the entire room.

“Nothing… you know I broke up with him a while ago” Tina said still with her thoughts on what Helena had said, not really paying much attention to the answer she was providing.

“Hasn’t he tried to contact you or, I don’t know, anything? Are you really telling us he has made no attempts to get you back?” The blue eyed woman asked in disbelief.

“Well… he has called a few times to, and I quote, check up on me… as if I didn’t have the best of the NYPD covering my back” Tina said in a rather ironic tone of voice, also charged with quite a bit of annoyance.

“I always said the guy was an idiot” Alice interjected which got her a disapproving stare from her brunette friend. “Oh come on! You cannot possibly tell me that the guy wasn’t… in fact… an idiot” Alice said stressing those last four words.

“He was sweet and really tried to be a gentleman, and Tina I really think he cares about you… ok he may have his flaws but guess what, we all do” Helena said trying to sound as positive as she could but not really succeeding.
