Walk On By—Chapter 6
She chuckles “So you aren’t denying what I said”
I remain silent
“Thought so” she says satisfactorily then her voice became soft “……Are you really ok Tee?…with your decision to end things with Henry?”
I didn’t hesitate in answering
“Very much so..I feel like a weight has totally been lifted off of my shoulders…I know it was the right thing even though my head was trying to tell me marrying Henry was the right thing to do but it wasn’t what my heart wanted”
Bette doesn’t reply to this but as I glance at her I can see the relief on her face as she glanced over at me briefly before looking back at the road. I want to tell her I am very much in love with her still and always have been but now is not the time as I need to work on myself and I know she isn’t ready for anything like that either. But I can tell she still loves me. She looks at me like she did when we first fell in love. I do however want to tell her about me continuing therapy.
“I also want to continue therapy as well. I know I have always gone to Dan but I think I want to try going to Rebecca Stansfield now”
Bette gasped at this
“Rebecca Stansfield?..Jesus Tee!…She is like the most renowned clinical psychologist in her field and is always booked. Like months and months in advance…Didn’t you try to get in with her before you started going to Dan?”
“Yes…I feel like she will be better suited to help me with my issues. Dan is great but it bothers me that he saw this pattern of mine and failed to bring it to the forefront years ago. He was supposed to be helping us..well me more so since I was the one depending on him…As much as I am grateful for him pointing this out to me now I can’t continue seeing him when I can’t trust him to be completely honest with me during our sessions”
Bette turns and nods quickly at me
“I always felt he was instigating things between me and Yolanda. He certainly didn’t step in to mediate things between us when they got heated and that caused a lot of uneasiness in the group. I didn’t appreciate that at all”

Don’t mess with Bette. Royal flush. Yes you were played!
Martha3128 says
Wow, that was as lucky as you get!! One hand and its all over…… Three of a kind is usually a strong hand, but it can be beat – a flush of any kind would beat it. A straight of any kind would beat it. Four of a kind would beat it, and a Full house would beat it….. but that which beats everything in a Royal Flush.
That was a high stakes gamble with that painting…..3.5 million, less the 850K, less Helena’s freedom, plus whatever chips she brought to the table – was her maximum loss. But for to Bette, it was worth the risk…. and win or lose, Helena would be free and have her earnings. That is a huge sacrifice Bette was willing to make for Helena. I mean huge…. This Bette has the heart and sole of a saint. Fortunately, Lady Luck smiled upon her. Oh, that I had a friend like Bette Potter!
Thank you for telling this story….. amazing chapter really….. can’t wait for the next chapter….

Oh god, this was fantastic!!!
Don’t ever play games with Bette Porter! Wow, game, set and match, bye bye Catherine!
OneStorm1 says
Wow, well that was some poetic justice. Catherine doesn’t know what hit her. She can’t even say that Bette cheated because she dealt the hand herself. I wonder how Bette got so good and lucky at poker? I can’t wait for the next chapter to see what is next.
