    “Intriguing to say the least..I don’t know anything about you except you prey on the weak minded for your own sexual and I guess professional gain” I say and she smirks at this seemingly impressed with my fortitude She points her finger at me “I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that” she says shuffling

    She points her finger at me “I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that” she says shuffling her cards as the game attendant brings my chips and sets them down on the table..Catherine eyes them with great interest  before laughing

    I raise my eyebrow waiting for her to speak which doesn’t take her long

    “I see what this is…You came here to ask me to forget Helena’s debt”

    I shake my head and smirk “No Ms Rothberg.  I came to play you for it”

    She laughs heartily at this “Did I hear you correctly?..You want to challenge me to a game of poker with the wager being that I release Helena’s debt?”

    “No..Not at all” I answer and she looks at me perplexed.  I move my tray of poker chips closer to me.  “I also want you to pay Helena the $850,000 you owe her per your agreement of the cut of her winnings you promised her originally”

    She looks at me like I am a bone she is ready to pounce on as if I am no match for her. But I can tell I have her interest

    “This is all assuming that you win..Am I right?” She asks and I nod as she continues to shuffle the cards “….And what happens if I win.?….And as you know the odds are in my favor here” she says gesturing at her pile of chips

    Oh I want to slap that smug look off her face…but instead I just smile

    “You seem like a woman that appreciates fine art….Am I right” I ask

    She raises her eyebrow “Go on…”

    I pull my cellphone out of my purse and swipe to a painting that hangs in my penthouse in New York.  I hand my phone to her and watch her eyes light up.

    “This is a one of kind Berigni.  His paintings are worth millions.  How did you…”

    I cut her off “….If you know all about me you don’t need to ask questions…That painting is worth 3.5 million and it is currently in my possession free and clear…And it’s yours along with Helena’s debt wiped away and paying her the $850,000 owed to her if you win.  I am only asking for Helena’s debt to be wiped and you pay her the money she is owed and let her go”

    2. Wow, that was as lucky as you get!! One hand and its all over…… Three of a kind is usually a strong hand, but it can be beat – a flush of any kind would beat it. A straight of any kind would beat it. Four of a kind would beat it, and a Full house would beat it….. but that which beats everything in a Royal Flush.

      That was a high stakes gamble with that painting…..3.5 million, less the 850K, less Helena’s freedom, plus whatever chips she brought to the table – was her maximum loss. But for to Bette, it was worth the risk…. and win or lose, Helena would be free and have her earnings. That is a huge sacrifice Bette was willing to make for Helena. I mean huge…. This Bette has the heart and sole of a saint. Fortunately, Lady Luck smiled upon her. Oh, that I had a friend like Bette Potter!

      Thank you for telling this story….. amazing chapter really….. can’t wait for the next chapter….

    6. Wow, well that was some poetic justice. Catherine doesn’t know what hit her. She can’t even say that Bette cheated because she dealt the hand herself. I wonder how Bette got so good and lucky at poker? I can’t wait for the next chapter to see what is next.
