Alice: I see, Bertha is still alive and well?

Shelby: Oh yeah, she may look rough but under the hood she’s softer than a two-minute egg! Here hand me u’r your bags?

Alice: [does as she’s told and watches as she places them in the back of her truck]

Shelby: Need some help getting in?

Alice: Nope, I got it.

Shelby: You sure?

Alice: Yeah.

Shelby: You reckon the last time you—-.

Alice: [ignoring her grabs a hold of the chrome level bar and lifts herself onto the step deck, eventually sliding herself into the front seat]

Shelby: [watching in admiration with her hands on her hips] Well, look who went and got some snap in her garters!

Alice: [smiling down at her in a country accent] This ain’t my first rodeo!

Shelby: [excitedly runs to the other side climbs into the driver side starting the truck]

Alice: Looks like Bertha got a little bit taller too?

Shelby: Yeah, bout six months ago I flipped her it was pretty bad thought she was buzzard bait.

Alice: Still racing?

Shelby: You’re looking at the reigning Southern Monster Truck champ three years in a row.

Alice: Nice! I didn’t know that!

Shelby: [nods her head] I know.

Alice: [an awkward silence fell between them]

Shelby: Well, that was before I totaled her but after a few band aids, a lift kit, shocks, tires, and some gorilla snot she’s back to her old self. [she says before winking at her]

Shelby, for a lack of a better description is what some would refer to as “cornbread feed.” She was tall, thick in all the right places, with eyes the color of blue toilet water, had long blonde hair that she always wore in a ponytail, and was countrier than a “suga sandwich!” No one knew much about her personal life for two reasons 1.) She rarely talked about it and 2.) When she did, her accent was so thick you needed subtitles to understand just what in the hell she was saying! Since, they were kids she was a tom boy at heart so it came as no surprise when she made the boys varsity wrestling team in high school and went on to drive Monster Trucks for a living. She had the upmost respect for her, because unlike 99.9% of the world’s population (including her) she could care less what anyone said or thought about her. She lived her life according to what made her happy and did just that.
