When Fate Meets Destiny—Chapter 4
“You will be a great godmother” I say and meant it
“Thanks” she says as the redness returns to her cheeks “…But after that I’m heading back to London” she pauses “So when are you leaving?”
“Tomorrow. I have to get back to finish up my own bridge construction project” I say finding it endearing that Tina chose my profession and she focuses on bridge construction like I do. “And..I have to go to my lawyers to sign the final divorce papers. I got word on my way here that they were ready” I added feeling a little emotional about that.
Tina looked at me with so much understanding and compassion. I felt comforted as she gentle squeezed my arm again.
“Uhmm. I know I said I was going to visit Skylar. But if you need me to be there or anything. I just. Uhmmm..Didn’t want you to be alone. Just know I want to be there for you if you need support”
And just like that she shows again how selfless she is. I can’t and will not let this woman get away from me
I smile at her warmly and place my hand on top of hers that’s gently resting on my arm.
“You are so sweet to suggest that Tina but you keep your plans ok..I promise you I will be ok”
“Will you call me if you need me…For anything?” She asks and I know she means it
“You have my word…And I want you to do the same for me. If you need anything and I mean anything at all you call me”
She nods as her phones buzzes and she looks down at the text she received and I sigh looking at my watch
“Are you hungry?” She asks and it’s like she read my mind because I was going to ask her the same
I nod “Yes. I could use a bite”
“Good because the church is bringing over food. I asked them not to do that but they insisted and it would be shame for it to go to waste..And I would love for you to stay and eat with me”
“I would love to” I say and just then the doorbell sounds
“Excuse me. That’s Ms Milton with the food” she says standing up and I go to do the same
“Let me help you” I offer and she waves me off motioning me to sit back down
“I got it. You just relax” she says smiling at me before going back inside the house.
I sigh and grab my phone opening it and quickly shooting a text to Maddie
Hey kiddo. I need to talk to you when I get home. I have something to discuss with you..Love you. I will be in touch
I hit send and go back to scroll through my contacts
Lance I need to see about getting on the project that Gellman Engineering is contracted to do in Italy
I hit send and a moment later I get a reply from Lance
Come see me when you get back then. I don’t think it would be a problem to get you on as a consultant
I let out at breath knowing I had a lot planning to do but this is what I wanted and what I will work toward. Fate and destiny working together again.
I then get a text from Maddie
Ok..Hope it’s nothing bad. Please tell Tina that I love her and sorry I couldn’t make it
“Are you alright?” I hear Tina’s voice and I look up from my phone and see her concerned look. She’s just so beautiful.
I smile “Yes. I was just texting Maddie” I didn’t lie. I’m just not going to let her know my plans right now. I want to surprise her when the time comes. And I hope it’s a welcome one “…..She says she loves you and sorry she couldn’t make it
“Oh it’s alright. I understand…I just came out to tell you the food is on the counter. You ready to go in?”
I nod and follow her back inside ready to plan the next phase of my life

Seems that Bette and Melissa worked rather diligently to try to save their marriage. If their problems seem to begin eleven years ago with their move to New York… that’s a long period for things to break down and become unresolvable. And they did move back to Philadelphia a few years later, but still they could not resolve their differences enough to sustain their marriage. Yet, they love each other still. I wonder… did they really love each other? Or perhaps they loved the idea of the other. In some people, they form an image of who the other is and have a tendency to to ignore the reality of who they are. No person is perfect. All people have flaws… a relationship is sometimes determined on whether each one can live with the flaws or not. Perhaps a judgement that the cost out weighs the benefits? Or is there a more suitable partner elsewhere? Something about Bette and Melissa’s relationship says something like this is going on. From the story so far, Bette has been devoted to Melissa and to Maddy. She has not allowed anything to challenge her relationship to Melissa, not even her repressed attraction to Tina. She may not have been honest with herself, but she did not allow it to get between her and Melissa. It appears to me, that between Melissa and Bette, sometimes love just simply is not enough.
Tina’s hearing of the conversation between Bette and Melissa on having a second child is heart breaking. This would be a major issue in this couple where one wants another child and the other is showing signs that it is not going to happen. I imagine that this would not be the only conversation between Bette and Melissa on the subject. I can see that this would be the beginning of the dissolution of their marriage. It would appear that the sole glue to keep them together then would become Maddy.
This was a very thought provoking chapter on Bette’s history. Now that Bette is going to begin to pursue Tina…. I am anxious to see how she does that. Under the right circumstances and the right conditions, I do not think it will take very long for these two to become a couple.
Thanks for the update.
Agree with Martha her opinion on this chapter.
Let’s see how this will go, looks like Bette is making first steps to be closer to Tina.
