When Fate Meets Destiny—Chapter 4
“So I’m going to be ok. I’ve accepted it” I hear Bette say taking me out of my thoughts
“I’m really sorry Bette. Honestly. You two were my couple goals. I wanted what you two had” I say and it was true. Even though I was in love with Bette and couldn’t ever have her, I had always admired the relationship she shared with Melissa and wanted what they had.
I locked eyes with her and see her staring at me
“Tina?…You deserve all the happiness in the world and you will have that some day. I just know you will. You are smart, beautiful, and the most kind hearted, loving person I know. I know one day you will have everything your heart desires and that person will be so lucky to have you to call their own”. She says and I’m speechless as she places her hand on top of mine and I feel sparks igniting through my body. She squeezes my hand gently before releasing it just as quickly. I inwardly sigh as her words and her touch permeate through me
“That’s uhm..Wow..That’s so sweet of you to say” I can feel the heat rush to my cheeks. Even now she makes me blush so fucking hard. I quickly take a sip of coffee and grab my napkin to quickly wipe my mouth.
Bette’s POV
I can help but notice her cheeks flush red. I never really noticed that before. I was oblivious before because I didn’t want to see her as anything but my best friends daughter. But she’s so cute when she’s trying to hide it. I wish I could tell her I was talking about myself but for now I have to play the part of just a close family friend. And the sparks I feel now every time we touch is something I had first felt years ago from her when my feelings started to change for her.
“I don’t really think that’s in the cards for me” she says and the sadness on her face makes me want to breakdown and confess my feelings to her but that wouldn’t be fair. Not to her. Not when I need to work on myself after my marriage ended. But I am not losing her though

Seems that Bette and Melissa worked rather diligently to try to save their marriage. If their problems seem to begin eleven years ago with their move to New York… that’s a long period for things to break down and become unresolvable. And they did move back to Philadelphia a few years later, but still they could not resolve their differences enough to sustain their marriage. Yet, they love each other still. I wonder… did they really love each other? Or perhaps they loved the idea of the other. In some people, they form an image of who the other is and have a tendency to to ignore the reality of who they are. No person is perfect. All people have flaws… a relationship is sometimes determined on whether each one can live with the flaws or not. Perhaps a judgement that the cost out weighs the benefits? Or is there a more suitable partner elsewhere? Something about Bette and Melissa’s relationship says something like this is going on. From the story so far, Bette has been devoted to Melissa and to Maddy. She has not allowed anything to challenge her relationship to Melissa, not even her repressed attraction to Tina. She may not have been honest with herself, but she did not allow it to get between her and Melissa. It appears to me, that between Melissa and Bette, sometimes love just simply is not enough.
Tina’s hearing of the conversation between Bette and Melissa on having a second child is heart breaking. This would be a major issue in this couple where one wants another child and the other is showing signs that it is not going to happen. I imagine that this would not be the only conversation between Bette and Melissa on the subject. I can see that this would be the beginning of the dissolution of their marriage. It would appear that the sole glue to keep them together then would become Maddy.
This was a very thought provoking chapter on Bette’s history. Now that Bette is going to begin to pursue Tina…. I am anxious to see how she does that. Under the right circumstances and the right conditions, I do not think it will take very long for these two to become a couple.
Thanks for the update.
Agree with Martha her opinion on this chapter.
Let’s see how this will go, looks like Bette is making first steps to be closer to Tina.
