    When Hope Is Lost.

Over the course of the next ten days, Ozzie received his chemotherapy in stages that would allow his body time to cope with it without him getting too seriously sick. He was also given drugs to try and keep his nausea down. He did have days when he did nothing but throw up all day, and he eventually lost his appetite after a few days of the chemotherapy and had to have a feeding tube inserted in his nose and as predicted, his mouth developed sores as well making eating difficult for him.

When his hair started falling out, they shaved his head at his request and he then wore a stocking hat to keep his head warm. Tina bought him some fleece pajamas to keep him warm as well. He was so small and didn’t have much meat on his bones, so he was often cold.

He frequently requested that Bette hold him, which she did without question. He stayed in her arms most of the time unless she had to use the bathroom or take a small break, then either Tina or Maxine held him. He loved to be in his momma’s arms as it kept him warmer.

Bette wanted to be nowhere else for the first ten days of his treatment. If Ozzie was with her they sat in the rocking chair and talked of he slept. Tina came as often as she could but didn’t bring the baby, as it was better for her to stay at home. The extended family rallied around the family, offering assistance where they could.

Kit babysat Angelica when Tina went to the hospital. Consequently, Tina made sure there was enough breast milk in the refrigerator for Kit to feed her. When Tina came home, she’d decompressed with Kit so that she could let go of the stress of the situation with Ozzie and Bette. She shared that Bette was exhausted and in great need of some rest herself. Tina wanted her to come to the house to rest and get some good sleep. Kit agreed that it was time for that to happen.

Kit shared that she’d get Bette to do that and that she’d stay with Ozzie for a few days as Bette also needed to spend some time with Angelica as well. She felt it would be good for the three of them to spend some time together for a couple of days and Tina agreed with her.
