    Chapter 23 – When Hope is Lost

     

    “Thank you, Julia, I’m Bette and she’s Tina, if that would be easier…” Bette said to her as she shook Julia’s hand.

     

    “I’m delighted to and you can call me Julia. Now, his room in pediatric oncology is ready for me to transfer him there. Is that okay with the both of you to do that now. It would be better to isolate him as soon as possible to prevent unwarranted infections from springing up.”

     

    “Yes, that would be fine. I have his blanket and stuffed Monkey here for you to take and sterilize for him. He’ll want it when he wakes up.” Bette shared with Julia as she then went and retrieved the blanket and monkey and then handed them to Julia. She took them and then headed out the door and said to the moms that she’d be back in five minutes to transfer Ozzie.

     

    Bette just stood there watching her walk out of the door, feeling helpless and sad for Ozzie for what he was about to go through. It would be an arduous ordeal for him and them…Tina reached for her wife’s hand and took it in hers and gave it a loving squeeze. Bette turned to look at her. The look on Bette’s face said so much to Tina who then reached for her and pull her wife into her to hold for comfort and support.

     

    “I’m right here, Babe, I’m right here by your side as are the many family members to assist us with this. It’s going to take the whole family and everyone pitching in to get through this. I know you’ll want to be with him all the time, but you have to remember to take care of you too, and that I’m a part of this as much as you are… I so want to be and hope you’ll allow me that. We both decided that we are family again, so we’re going to talk all the time, about everything, do you hear me Bette?”

     

    “Yes, Tee, I hear you and am grateful for you being here in this moment. Yes, I understand that we’re family again and that you and I are going to do this together. We’re going to talk and ask questions when we need to and I’m going to allow our extended family to help us as much as possible. I promise you that…

    1. This was amazing and soooo sad at the same time, where do you begin when so much is happening all at once. Im so glaf Bette has all her family back and even though she cool with all her friends again im also happy that this story dont focus too much on them but the importance of Family! Love it
