She ended the call just as waved her hand over the sensor on the door, causing it to open back up. She immediately walked inside and let out a deep breath, muttering an apology to the only other person already inside the elevator. She received a chuckle as a response, the soft sound caressing Bette’s ears like no other. The voice that followed only served to increase the effect on the breathless brunette, even causing her heart to skip a beat.

“What floor are you headed to?”

Bette turned her head to meet the warm gaze of the beautiful woman standing beside her, her surprise causing her words to falter.

“Um .. t-third I think. I’m headed to a Lamaze class”

“Then you need the fourth” The woman chuckled as she pressed the button that was already lit, causing the elevator doors to close once more.

“Thank you” Bette winced before smiling, “I should have known that. My wife reminded me more than once”

“She must be very patient” The woman smiled.

Bette beamed at the glowing woman beside her, taking in her beautiful pregnant form. “To deal with me, a six year old and a baby on the way? I’d say more than patient”

The woman chucked again, “Looks like you got lucky then”

Bette flashed her megawatt smile, “You have no idea. We met in this very elevator you know”

The woman raised an eyebrow in intrigue, “Wow, really? Well, you know what they say: things happen when you least expect them to”

Bette agreed as her eyes roamed around the four walls that surrounded her, memories of her first meeting with Tina clear in her mind. She thought back to what her life had been since then, how far they had come since that fateful day. She inwardly smiled at how much she had dreaded entering the building with Alice all those years ago, not knowing just how drastically her life would change. She was happier than she could have ever hoped to be, silently thanking Alice for her unintentional involvement in changing her life.

The elevator dinged before the door opened to which Bette was completely oblivious to. She didn’t even notice when the woman stepped off the elevator, still lost in her own thoughts.

Noticing that she had exited by herself, the woman turned around and placed her hand over the door sensor. She smiled at the brunette who had been goofily smiling to herself.

“You comin’, baby?”

Bette blinked at the sound of her wife’s voice, their game forgotten as she focused on the pregnant form before her. She watched as Tina rubbed her swollen belly with her free hand, her eyes glued to the baby bump that continued to grow with time. Bette smiled at the life growing inside her wife, still not over her excitement of the news they had received from the doctor the week before. Tina was having a boy.

She looked up at met her wife’s eyes, her heart swelling at the love that swirled in her beautiful hazel orbs. Bette realized that she had been asked a question and nodded her head in response, her smile widening.

“Wouldn’t miss it”
