    I know I don’t but I want to. No one has to know, which is why no one knows I’m here. I was hoping to do what I need to today and head back home. Everyone will just think I’m out with some girl.

    Oh Jeffery. Tina cupped his face. She looked to Bette waiting for her approval. Bette could see the look Tina was giving her like it was the answer to their on-going question for the last two weeks… Who will they get?…Bette smiled to the unspoked question Tina was asking with her heart. How could Bette turn that face down. She nods giving her approval. Tina’s heart swells and the tears flowed. She looked at Bette for a few seconds more before looking back at Jeffery who was smiling.

    What? Tina asks still holding his face.

    That. He tilts his head towards Bette. What you two just did. That’s why I want to do it. You guys love each other so much that an important decision was made with just a look of agreement. I want to add to your happiness. And I do it whole-heartedly, without reservation, in secret. Just the smile on your face is payment enough. I love you guys. I loved Bette the moment I met her and saw how she looked at you. She’s one of us. By this time Bette had come around behind Tina.

    Bette comes out of her thoughts of the past. Sorry, yes? Is everything alright?

    The nurse smiles. Yes. She’s ready for you. Everything is going as planned. Come on. I need to get you ready. You’re about to become a mother.

    Bette smiled that big Porter smile. Oh my God. I am aren’t I?

    The nurse smiles and leads her to a room where she hands Bette a paper gown, booties to cover her shoes, and mask. The nurse ties the back for her. Ok you ready to meet and bring your daughter into the world?
