    Bette turns to looks at her and then back to Tina. You ok? You want to hear her out now or do you need more time?

    Tina wipes her face. She glanced into Bette’s eyes but that was all, just a glance she could handle seeing if Bette was disappointed. No, I’m ok. I want to hear. Bette helps her back to her seat. Dr. Griffin starts to speak but Tina stops her.

    First tell me why…please.

    She nods her head. Sure. I can do that but it may be painful.

    I can’t feel any worse that I do right now unless…

    Unless what Tina?  Dr. Griffin asks.

    Unless I caused it somehow. She starts to cry again.

    No no no. Not at all. It’s not your fault. You have a hormonal problem that prevents you from producing mature eggs. Now there are different medications we can try to get them to mature but I have to also tell you this could be a lengthy process that still may not produce a child.

    How lengthy? Bette asks.

    Months at best but most cases take years. Years that you may not want to waste. And I might add that it’s very expensive. Tina looks over to Bette then back to the doctor.

    What else can you suggest? Tina asks.

    Well Bette’s test came back fine. She could conceive and carry. At her age it’s more risky but we can keep a close eye on her. However I also know you were the one wanting to carry your child.

    Yes I did. Tina sounds defeated.

    Tina I said you couldn’t get pregnant in your current condition. She pauses for a moment and leans forward on her desk. But I didn’t say you can’t carry a child to full term.

    Tina jerked her head up quickly hearing this. Bette sees the glimmer of hope back in Tina’s eyes.
