Tina you get checked regularly according to your records and we’ll continue to do so. If your estrogen drops, then I can prescribe medication to bring it back up. Bette nods and takes a deep breath.
We just need to keep an eye on things now that we know what is going on. Are you two ok? I know we have gone over a lot in a hour.
They look at each other and smile. Yes I think we will be just fine. Tina says. In Tina’s mind, she just wants a baby and carrying a part of Bette inside her for nine months would suit her just fine.
Ok then I think you have some hunting to do.
They both look at her puzzled. The Donor! She says.
Oh yeah, right. You’re right. Geez. My mind went blank.
So did mine. Bette says as they get up and shake Dr. Griffin’s hand goodbye. Bette takes Tina’s hand and they walk out very happily.
They get home after a quiet ride. Both had been trying to absorb what was just said to them in the doctor’s office. Bette’s mind is reeling thinking about finding a new donor while also trying to not think of bad things that could still be lurking in Tina’s body. She couldn’t lose her to cancer or some other deadly thing that would take her away.
They make it home and get inside. Tina speaks first. Well I guess it’s a good thing we had all those tests done or we wouldn’t have known I have this problem. What if we hadn’t…
Shhhh. Bette grabs ahold of Tina. Baby but we did. She pulls back and looks Tina in the eye. We did and Dr. Griffin is going to check everything. You’re going to be just fine baby, just fine. We will be just fine.
But I can’t have a baby on my own. She cries finally. Bette knew she would break. Shhhh. It’s ok baby. It’s ok. We’re still going to have our baby even if I have to carry it myself. Come on. We need to call your mom. She will be worried sick.
