SUNDAY

Sunday offers a return of Desperate Housewives and two new shows. Once Upon A Time is a time-travel series that stars Jennifer Morrison as a young woman who stays in a hotel in a mystery town where “time stops.” This land is unique because it apparently is trapped in time after a curse and is a home to various fairytale characters. The rest of the cast includes Gennifer Goodwin, Lana Parrilla and Robert Carlyle, among others. The show’s approach is to alternate between real life and fairytale world, in which the characters live.
Another new show is Pan Am that features Christina Ricci as a stewardess in 1960’s New York. This drama was called by some critics as a mix between Mad Men and Alias because it revolves around a group of airline pilots, officials, stewardesses in their workplace and complicated personal lives, with a blend of romance, intrigue, spy thriller and politics.
MIDSEASON
ABC has a few new shows lined-up for the midseason and one of them is a drama Good Christian Belles (which had an original title of Good Christian Bitches because it is based on the bestseller by Kim Gatlin but ABC wouldn’t go for it). It stars Leslie Bibb who plays a woman returning to her hometown 20 years later after her marriage failed. At home she encounters everyone she hurt in high school. At least one good thing about it is Kristin Chenoweth as a part of the cast, who can do nothing wrong in my eyes.
Missing is a mystery drama about a mother, played by Ashley Judd, who travels to Europe to find her son who disappeared while studying abroad. She is also a former CIA agent and the story revolves around an idea of how far a mother would go to protect her family. The cast also includes Sean Bean, Cliff Curtis, Nick Eversman, and Tereza Vorsikova.
Another midseason show is a comedy Work It that centers on two guys and buddies who struggle to get a job and had to dress as women to get a job as pharmaceutical representatives. Ben Koldyke plays a married guy and Amaury Nolasco is a single ladies’ man. The plot sounds like Tom Hanks sitcom Bosom Buddies that ran on ABC for two seasons in 1980-1982.
Another midseason new show is a comedy Apartment 23 that was originally introduced under the title Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23. It stars Krysten Ritter who plays a crazy roommate of a Midwestern and naïve girl who just moved to New York. Other outrageous and hilarious characters include James Van Der Beek, Dreama Walker, and Michael Blaiklock.
The River is another mystery show about finding a missing family member in the Amazon who is a famous wildlife expert with a popular TV show. It is filmed in documentary style and stars Eloise Mumford, Bruce Greenwood, Joe Anderson and Leslie Hope.
The final midseason show is a legal thriller Scandal (previously known as Damage Control) that stars Kerry Washington as a professional crisis manager who runs a team of people specializing in “fixing the lives of other people but can’t quite fix their own.” This drama comes from Shonda Rhimes, the executive producer of Grey’s Anatomy.
SHOWS THAT DIDN’T MAKE IT
At least three pilots failed to get picked up by ABC, which includes Georgetown (formerly known as The Inner Circle), the primetime soap about young people behind the power brokers of D.C, also featuring a lesbian couple. Grace was a drama about a world of professional dancers. Hallelujah was another drama that “centers on a stranger who comes to the small town of Hallelujah, Tenn. to bring justice, peace and restore the faith in the world the residents of the troubled town desperately need”.
