    Act XVI

Shane, Carmen, Leigh and Annie all arrive together and were soon followed by Alice and Tasha. Emma and her brood were the last. As soon as they got there Angie and the rest of the kids rushed to greet Suzie, and Josh to bring them upstairs to the game room. The kids played while the adults socialized and got better acquainted.

Everyone complimented the beautiful decorations as they stopped to place their gifts under the Christmas tree. Leigh was especially touched when she saw one of her angels in the place of honor at the top of tree.

As early evening approached Douglas informed Peggy that they were ready to have the guests seated for dinner. Douglas had prepared a traditional holiday meal of turkey and ham with all the fixings. They didn’t have formal seating set up, but Peggy and Bette shared the hostess positions by sitting at opposite ends of the table. Tina was seated to Bette’s right and Winnie to Peggy’s. Most of the couples sat next to one another. The parents seated themselves strategically in order to assist the younger children. Peggy had arranged for a highchair for Joshua and Katie slept peacefully in a bassinet close by.

Peggy blessed the table before everyone starts to eat. “As I look around this table, I feel so blessed to have you all here to share this time together. In the peace of this season our hearts and spirits are joyful; we are thankful to you Lord for the many ways that you have blessed this gathering. We are grateful for each of those who are gathered around this table. We are thankful for and ask your blessings on this bountiful food; we ask that you bless this home; and we ask that you bless us. In this season we remember your message of caring and giving. We pray for peace in families and nations throughout the world. In our gratitude and love we bless you and give thanks. Amen”

After dinner, dessert and coffee everyone gathered in the living room to play games, sing holiday songs, and enjoy each other’s company. Peggy prepared a Christmas stocking for each of her guests. They start a new tradition for the kids that allows them to open one of their gifts on Christmas Eve, but all others must wait until Christmas Day has officially arrived. The kids try to stay awake until after midnight to open more presents, but they are all fast asleep by 10:30 pm.
Alice, Tasha, Leigh, and Annie decide to take Peggy up on her offer for them to spend the night in the two extra guest bedrooms. Emma and Liz have other family commitments on Christmas day, so they head home. Shane and Carmen will spend Christmas day with Carmen’s family, so they head home as well.

    1. Very nice holidays….nice trip for Bette and Tina in celebration of Bette’s birthday. Things are really going well for this family. Love how Angie and Peggy are so into each other. I am amazed that Peggy has taken on her role as grandmother as much as she has. Of course she has a full staff to assist with the mundane duties of cooking and cleaning which comes from a house full of people.

I presume that Sampson is a Pomeranian pup? I had a neighbor who had a red (orange) one. His name was Copper. I loved his cut little fox like face. Black eyes and black nose and wild fluffy orange fur. I always left my back door open for the cat to come in and out. So Copper would come visit us frequently. Sweet friendly little dog.

So Tina was tired on Christmas Eve? Could she possibly be pregnant? I assume we will see in the near future.

      Thanks for this lovely chapter…..
