Can we get it back – Chapter 8

    “Ms. Kennard?” The nurse says.

“Yes.” Tina says as she stands up and follows the nurse out into the hallway and towards Bette’s room. “Is she awake?” Tina asks as they walk along.

“No, not yet, but the prognoses is. that she will be soon.” The nurse says and stops in front of the door into Bette’s room.

“What shall I expect in there? Same as last night?” Tina asks carefully.

“It looks like she’s sleeping peacefully. Wires are attached to her and her head is bandaged.” The nurse informs.

“Okay, thank you. How long do I have?” Tina asks.

“We’ll allow 1 visitor all day. Your daughter will arrive later yes?” The nurse asks.

“Yes, she will be here after school.” Tina replies.

“That will be fine. But no more visitors for a few days.” The nurse says.

    “Okay.” Tina agrees.

“You can go in.” The nurse says and points at the door. She then leaves.

Tina takes a deep breath and slowly opens the door.

She walks slowly to the side of the bed, takes Bette’s hand in hers and takes a seat on the side of the bed.

“Hi baby.” Tina says while gently stroking Bette’s hand. “The operation went well, so we hope you’ll confirm that really soon by waking up.” Tina continues as she looks down on Bette’s peaceful face. Appearing carefree, but Tina knew there would be tough times ahead with the recovery. But she had made a promise to be there 100%, full time. And she would not take those words back.

She gets off the bed and takes a seat on the chair next to the bed, she takes out her laptop and logs on. She promised her boss to check in from time to time, and she figured while Bette still sleeping, she could get a few things done. Occasionally, she would look up at Bette to see if there were any changes or just to anchor her in a way. Thoughts were all over the place and she had a hard time concentrating on work. She was trying to read some lines from the last script for the last episode of the season that was under production, but she had a hard time getting past the first line. All she could think about was what would happen, would Bette even consider taking her back after all the hurt she had done. Could she ever forgive her? Tina thinks to herself and is in deep thoughts when she suddenly hears a sound that sounded like a weak and slow “hey”. She quickly looks up and sees Bette looking at her. She put her laptop down in seconds and stands up and is at Bette’s side faster than the speed of light it felt like.

    1. Okay…on their way home and recovery. Bette, please do not overthink this. Let things develop as they will naturally. With some time and rehab, thing will be back to normal physically for Bette.

As to the tiredness for Bette? I have had a couple of surgeries. Each time the recovery to the actual surgery was fairly quick – a week to two weeks. But the recovery form the anesthesia seemed to take forever. I was told form my surgeon that it takes most people a full month to get it out of your system and get back to your regular energy level. It was absolutely true for me. I had the need for a 2 hour nap every day even after having slept for 8 hours the night before. I was tired and sleepy. And Bette was under an anesthesia for more than 6 hours. So tiredness is a natural response for several weeks following the procedure..

Great story… thanks for giving this to us.

    2. I only started now to read your story. Happy that Bette is ok. She’ll have to work for her recovery but she has enough reasons to be very motivated.

I hope that Tina and Bette are able to talk about everything that went wrong between them and find a new basis for their relationship.

      Looking forward to more.

    3. Interesting – Bette don’t have a job, right? And she didn’t have her a some time – she running for mayor but it’s not job. Where she get a money? And if she ever had medical insurance? Because if not – this treatment is very expensive, she can’t afford it.
