Can we get it back – Chapter 8

“Hey.” Tina softly says, looking down at her.

Bette slowly moves her head and blinks her eyes a few times to focus. “How do you feel?” Tina asks slowly.

“I…” Bette starts but stops, she has trouble putting the words together. “Head… hurt.” She gets out.

“You want me to get the doctor?” Tina asks, softly stroking Bette’s arm.

“Ye.” Bette replies as one single tear slips down the corner of her eye.

“I’ll be right back.” Tina says and hurries out into the hallway, she catches the eye of the nurse at the nurses station. “Hey, Bette, she woke up, but her head hurts, can someone come and check on her?” Tina calls out.

Inside the room, Bette could feel her head hurt like hell, and she notice she stumble a little with the words, she hoped that was because she just woke up. But Tina was there, she wanted to believe Tina when she said she’d be there through it all, but she had been afraid to actually believe it. So, when Tina now still was there, she felt happy and a tear rolls down the corner of her eye.

While out in the hallway Tina talks to the nurses at the nurses station.

“Off course, I’ll call the doctor. We’ll be right in.” The nurse replies.

“Thank you.” Tina says as she walks back into the room.

“The doctor will be here soon sweetie. You just relax. You remember where you are?” Tina asks carefully.

    “Yeah…. Hosp…” Bette replies silently.

“Yes, hospital. The operation was a success Bette. They got the whole thing out.” Tina says with a smile as she also has trouble holding back the tears, but it’s tears of joy this time. “Do you feel any different?” She adds wondering if Bette notice it or maybe it’s too soon after to recognize any signs.

“No, just pain… tired…” Bette replies slowly. “Why are you crying?” She asks curiously.

“Because I’m happy you are awake and that it seems that speech is intact. We were scared shitless while you were in surgery yesterday. Angie is at school now, but she will be over later to see you.” Tina says with a smile.

“Okay, good….” Bette says, but has to take a break. “They really got the whole..?” She asks optimistically.

    1. Okay…on their way home and recovery. Bette, please do not overthink this. Let things develop as they will naturally. With some time and rehab, thing will be back to normal physically for Bette.

As to the tiredness for Bette? I have had a couple of surgeries. Each time the recovery to the actual surgery was fairly quick – a week to two weeks. But the recovery form the anesthesia seemed to take forever. I was told form my surgeon that it takes most people a full month to get it out of your system and get back to your regular energy level. It was absolutely true for me. I had the need for a 2 hour nap every day even after having slept for 8 hours the night before. I was tired and sleepy. And Bette was under an anesthesia for more than 6 hours. So tiredness is a natural response for several weeks following the procedure..

Great story… thanks for giving this to us.

    2. I only started now to read your story. Happy that Bette is ok. She’ll have to work for her recovery but she has enough reasons to be very motivated.

I hope that Tina and Bette are able to talk about everything that went wrong between them and find a new basis for their relationship.

      Looking forward to more.

    3. Interesting – Bette don’t have a job, right? And she didn’t have her a some time – she running for mayor but it’s not job. Where she get a money? And if she ever had medical insurance? Because if not – this treatment is very expensive, she can’t afford it.
