Can we get it back – Chapter 8

“Yeah, they got it all. Next up is recovery from this and then on to the next stage of chemo or radiation.” Tina replies as she softly strokes her hand on Bette’s arm to show comfort.

“Tina?” Bette starts, but closes her eyes briefly because of the pain in her head.

“Yeah?” Tina replies curiously as to what Bette will say.

“Why are you here? Has something happened with Carrie?” Bette asks, afraid of the answer.

“We should table this conversation until you are a little more awake and alert.” Tina says, looking lovingly down at her ex-wife, which she hopes might be her wife or partner again someday.

“No, I am alert now, please.” Bette pleads.

“I broke it off with her. I am moving back to Los Angeles full time. Me and Angie are apartment-hunting in a few days.” Tina says with a sad smile.

“I’m sorry.” Bette says honestly. She wanted Tina to be happy, to have what she wanted. She thinks to herself.

“It’s okay. I do want to talk to you about all this Bette, but I really want to wait until you are better, maybe at home resting comfortably on your couch, without pain. Can we do that?” Tina asks softly.

“Yeah, off course. I am rather sleepy now and I hope the damn doctor comes in with the pain medication, because this pain might kill me soon.” Bette says and tries to laugh. Just then the doctor comes in.

“Hi Ms. Porter. I am happy to see you awake. The nurse says you are in pain?” The doctor asks.

“Yes, my head hurts like hell.” Bette replies silently.

“Well, we’ll have to do something about that then. What I will give you, will also make you sleep.” The doctor says.

“That’s fine. Just take the pain away.” Bette agrees.

“Sure.” He nods to the nurse who put something into her IV. Few minutes goes by and the doctor and nurse leave the room.

“You just sleep Bette. I’ll be here when you wake up. I’ll be here all day and night. And as I said, Angie will be here after school. You won’t be alone. Okay?” Tina says as she leans down and place a soft kiss on Bette’s forehead.

    1. Okay…on their way home and recovery. Bette, please do not overthink this. Let things develop as they will naturally. With some time and rehab, thing will be back to normal physically for Bette.

As to the tiredness for Bette? I have had a couple of surgeries. Each time the recovery to the actual surgery was fairly quick – a week to two weeks. But the recovery form the anesthesia seemed to take forever. I was told form my surgeon that it takes most people a full month to get it out of your system and get back to your regular energy level. It was absolutely true for me. I had the need for a 2 hour nap every day even after having slept for 8 hours the night before. I was tired and sleepy. And Bette was under an anesthesia for more than 6 hours. So tiredness is a natural response for several weeks following the procedure..

Great story… thanks for giving this to us.

    2. I only started now to read your story. Happy that Bette is ok. She’ll have to work for her recovery but she has enough reasons to be very motivated.

I hope that Tina and Bette are able to talk about everything that went wrong between them and find a new basis for their relationship.

      Looking forward to more.

    3. Interesting – Bette don’t have a job, right? And she didn’t have her a some time – she running for mayor but it’s not job. Where she get a money? And if she ever had medical insurance? Because if not – this treatment is very expensive, she can’t afford it.
