Can we get it back – Chapter 8

“Hey sweetie. You hungry?” Tina asks.

“No, I’m good. I ate a few hours ago.” Angie replies. “And I ate an apple on the way over here, so I’m good.” She adds.

“Okay, that’s good.” Tina says while taking another sip of her coffee.

“So, she really seemed okay?” Angie asks.

“Yeah, she was alert and knew where she was and everything. But her head was hurting a lot, so she had trouble concentrating on talking. The doctor came in and gave her some pain medication so she could sleep and rest. But as of now, she seemed fine. About the walking we don’t know until she is well enough to get out of bed. I bet that is still a few days away.” Tina replies.

“Oh, that’s a relief. I was really scared that she would lose her speech or something.” Angie says concerned.

“Me too. But she seems fine in that aspect.” Tina assures her daughter with a smile.

“Can we go up and see mama B now?” Angie excitingly asks. Tina smiles.

“Sure sweetie, let’s go.” Tina replies as she gets up and they walk out of the cafeteria “How was school today? And how’s Jordi?” Tina asks while they wait for the elevators to arrive.

“It was okay, and Jordi is great.” Angie replies with an almost embarrassed smile.

Tina smiles at her daughter. Oh, how to have that innocent first teenage love again. Carefree, but at the same time real and complex and all consuming. She thinks as they walk into the elevator and presses the 3. Floor button. A few minutes later they walk into Bette’s room. She’s still asleep it seems as they enter. Angie walks over to the bedside.

“She looks peaceful.” Angie whispers softly.

“Yes, she does. Peaceful and beautiful.” Tina whispers as she lovingly looks down on Bette.

Angie looks up at her mama T at the last remark. She was beginning to be hopeful about her mothers. Could they find their way back? Would mama B take mama T back? These were thoughts that had gone through Angie’s mind the last 24 hours. She also sees her mama T quickly wipe away a tear.

    “Mom?” She softly says.

“I’m okay sweetie.” Tina quickly replies and gives her a sad smile.

    1. Okay…on their way home and recovery. Bette, please do not overthink this. Let things develop as they will naturally. With some time and rehab, thing will be back to normal physically for Bette.

As to the tiredness for Bette? I have had a couple of surgeries. Each time the recovery to the actual surgery was fairly quick – a week to two weeks. But the recovery form the anesthesia seemed to take forever. I was told form my surgeon that it takes most people a full month to get it out of your system and get back to your regular energy level. It was absolutely true for me. I had the need for a 2 hour nap every day even after having slept for 8 hours the night before. I was tired and sleepy. And Bette was under an anesthesia for more than 6 hours. So tiredness is a natural response for several weeks following the procedure..

Great story… thanks for giving this to us.

    2. I only started now to read your story. Happy that Bette is ok. She’ll have to work for her recovery but she has enough reasons to be very motivated.

I hope that Tina and Bette are able to talk about everything that went wrong between them and find a new basis for their relationship.

      Looking forward to more.

    3. Interesting – Bette don’t have a job, right? And she didn’t have her a some time – she running for mayor but it’s not job. Where she get a money? And if she ever had medical insurance? Because if not – this treatment is very expensive, she can’t afford it.
