    Chapter 15

(Bette) Angie asked whether she could stay with you one night soon

    Tina looks over at her.

(Bette) I thought it probably wouldn’t work so well while you were at Alice’s, but now that you’re back at your house, what do you think?

(Tina) Would you be comfortable with that?

(Bette nods) Yes, I think it’s fine

They smile at each other and Tina shrugs.

(Tina) Well OK then, I’d like that a lot

    Bette smiles at her.

(Tina) I’ve kept my plans for breakfast with Kit on Saturday and was going to ask Angie if she still wants to join us. Maybe she could stay Friday night?

(Bette smiles) I think she’d love that, I’ll let her know

    (Tina smiles) OK

They walk in silence for a few paces before Bette again turns to her.

(Bette) Did she ask you much yesterday? About the past?

    Tina looks over at her.

(Tina) She really just wanted to know if we were happy

    Bette nods.

(Bette) And how did she react hearing that we were?

(Tina) I think it’s what she wanted to hear

They smile at each other. Tina then sighs and looks ahead.

(Tina) She also asked me what happened, but I obviously couldn’t answer that one

Bette looks over at her, watching Tina’s profile for a few steps as Tina continues looking ahead.

They walk on to Santa Monica and decide on a quiet restaurant for lunch before Bette has to leave for the gallery. They settle alongside each other in a cosy, tucked away booth.

They finish their meals and then sit back over a glass of wine, sitting close together and leaning towards each other with legs entwined. Bette casually plays with the hem of Tina’s skirt as they chat.

In a moment of comfortable silence Tina has a sip of wine and watches Bette for a moment.

(Tina) Can you tell me about another memory of us? From after 2002?

Bette looks over at her, tilting her head to one side as she takes in the look in Tina’s eyes.

    (Bette) What kind of memory?

(Tina smiles) You know what kind of memory

Bette smiles and has a sip of her wine before refocusing on Tina with a raised eyebrow. Tina smiles back at her.

    1. Okay, Tina is now threading on the edges of seeking the information of where and why they are where they are now. It is obvious that Tina and Bette still are in love with each other… and in the current life Tina is not happy with her current life and would like to get Bette back into her life. But what happened to break the two apart? I get the feeling that Tina initiated the split between the two? And sense Angie sees a great deal of animosity between the two with no memory of happiness, this being apart has gone on for a long time. You know that it is hard to repair that which you do not know is broken…. sooner or later, Tina has to face what their real history is…. I just hope she and Bette can find a path back together.

      Thanks for the chapter….

    2. Oh, we’re edging closer to what really happened when it all fell apart. I really hope their loving time together and the reminder of the best memories they had back then will reframe that devastating breakup and that they will both see it and all the ugly things that happened afterwards from a different perspective. Here’s hoping Bette and Tina’s enduring love for each other will eventually win and they will find a way back to each other despite all the hurt and pain they’ve gone through. Thank you so much for this chapter and this lovely, well-written and very interesting story, katynd!❤ Happy Thanksgiving!

    3. I wonder how close Tina is to facing her “fear” of why she & Bette had come to the point where animosity became their 1st option when dealing with one another. Somebody will rip the bandage off and reveal whassup . . . I just haven’t figured out who.

This is such an intriguing story.

Anyway, “playful” Tina may be able to wear cautious Bette down in time, so that the past can be discussed, grieved over and put to BED.
