    Chapter 15

    (Alice) Yeah, of course

Alice waits as Tina has a sip of wine before looking to her again.

(Tina) Do you know why I’ve been sad recently?

Alice continues looking back at her.

(Tina) Angie says I have been

    Tina sighs.

(Tina) She actually said that I cry a lot

Alice nods and focuses on her wine glass, and Tina examines her for a moment.

(Tina) That doesn’t seem to surprise you

    Alice looks up at her.

    (Alice) No, it doesn’t

    Alice sighs and shrugs.

(Alice) But you haven’t wanted to talk about it

Tina nods and has a sip of wine as she gathers her thoughts.

(Tina) Do you have a theory?

(Alice sighs) I think it’s something to do with Bette, but I haven’t worked out exactly what

Tina frowns as she considers this.

(Tina) What makes you think it’s about Bette?

Alice looks at her wine for a moment.

(Alice) You’ve just seemed different recently, about the whole thing. Something’s shifted for you

    Tina raises her eyebrows.

(Tina) I’m acting differently towards her?

    Alice looks up at her.

(Alice) Well, I don’t know about towards her, you’d have to ask Bette

    Tina nods.

(Alice) But, OK here’s an example

Alice has a sip of wine before continuing.

(Alice) She often comes up in conversation when we’re all together, just because, you know? Because she’s our friend. And you’ve always just been sort of neutral. You’ll just quietly bow out of that part of the conversation and have never seemed particularly interested in whatever it is we’re saying

    Tina nods as she listens.

    (Alice) But recently, I don’t know, you’ve been…

    (Tina) What?

    Alice looks at her.

    (Alice) Interested

Tina frowns as she takes this in.

(Alice) You’ve even asked about her a few times, which you would never usually do. And when her name comes up I can see it draws your attention

    Alice pauses for a moment.

(Alice) I remember thinking it reminded me of how someone acts when they’ve got a crush on someone. The way they react when they hear their name, and try to keep the conversation focused on them a little longer just because they want to talk about them

(Tina) And that all coincides with my being sad?

    (Alice nods) Yeah

    Alice sighs.

(Alice) But I don’t know, as I said you haven’t wanted to talk about it

Alice has a sip of wine and Tina watches her.

(Tina) And you think we’re still in love with each other

    Alice raises her eyebrows.

    (Tina) Angie again

    Alice nods and smiles.

(Alice) God that kid is good, I should ask her for some tips

They smile at each other. Alice sighs and places her wine back on the bench.

(Alice) Yeah, I think you’re still in love with each other

She looks up at Tina and shrugs.

(Alice) I’m pretty sure most of West Hollywood thinks you’re still in love with each other. Certainly anyone who’s ever tried to date either of you

(Tina frowns) What do you mean?

(Alice) Well you’re both just unavailable. Completely. You’ve both met some really great people over the years, and I think have actually been pretty into some of them. But when it comes down to it I don’t think you want to move on

    Alice shrugs.

(Alice) And so you don’t. Anyone new can only get to a certain point, and then that’s it. You end it

Alice shrugs again and Tina looks at her.

(Tina) And that’s been the pattern, this whole time? For both of us?

    Alice nods.

    (Alice) Yeah

    1. Okay, Tina is now threading on the edges of seeking the information of where and why they are where they are now. It is obvious that Tina and Bette still are in love with each other… and in the current life Tina is not happy with her current life and would like to get Bette back into her life. But what happened to break the two apart? I get the feeling that Tina initiated the split between the two? And sense Angie sees a great deal of animosity between the two with no memory of happiness, this being apart has gone on for a long time. You know that it is hard to repair that which you do not know is broken…. sooner or later, Tina has to face what their real history is…. I just hope she and Bette can find a path back together.

      Thanks for the chapter….

    2. Oh, we’re edging closer to what really happened when it all fell apart. I really hope their loving time together and the reminder of the best memories they had back then will reframe that devastating breakup and that they will both see it and all the ugly things that happened afterwards from a different perspective. Here’s hoping Bette and Tina’s enduring love for each other will eventually win and they will find a way back to each other despite all the hurt and pain they’ve gone through. Thank you so much for this chapter and this lovely, well-written and very interesting story, katynd!❤ Happy Thanksgiving!

    3. I wonder how close Tina is to facing her “fear” of why she & Bette had come to the point where animosity became their 1st option when dealing with one another. Somebody will rip the bandage off and reveal whassup . . . I just haven’t figured out who.

This is such an intriguing story.

Anyway, “playful” Tina may be able to wear cautious Bette down in time, so that the past can be discussed, grieved over and put to BED.
