Chapter 17 – Quick Trip to New Haven

Tina: Well, we are going to take things as they come to begin with. Of course, we do have some goals on things we want him to learn along the way in this process. But the goal is to allow him to achieve his dreams and happiness and to do so that he is a kind and ethical man whom people admire and want to know.

Mary:  Well, you have a good start on that.

Tina:  I’m going to get started on the kitchen. And then I’m going to get ready and go to the studio. Is there anything I need to accomplish for you for today? Are you ready for your appointment with the investment advisor for tomorrow?

Mary:  No, just get me a doctor’s appointment so I can get a general checkup and get prepared for overseas traveling.  I am so glad that Margaret is going with us. Now I’ll have a dinner companion as well as a tour buddy.

Tina:  You and Margaret seem to be getting along well.

Mary:  Yes. I really like her. She has a wonderful sense of humor. And she is so refreshingly straight forward and says what she thinks. My friends in Phoenix where so nice and they would never really tell you when they disagreed with you. But they would tell you about what they did not like about others who were not around. And when I suggested they tell that person about what they disliked, they would say “Noooo. I can’t do that; it wouldn’t be nice.”  I just shook my head. I never did understand that. If it bothered them enough to say something to me, they should have the courage to say something to them. Or they should just let it go.

Tina: Well, no one is going to be pleasing to you all the time. And that’s okay. They are entitled to live their lives as they deem appropriate. They are entitled to their opinions and views. And they are entitled to be their own authentic selves.  It’s up to us to decide if and how much we want to associate with them. We are all different Mary. And there will always be things we don’t understand and don’t get with other people. But that is who they are.
