    Chapter 18 – The Weekend – August 10 & 11

Tina said after everything they had discussed that they may be lucky to be in by the end of September. Bette said with defiance that they may not have everything they want, but they would definitely be living in that house come September 30th.  Tina laughed and said that she thought she was right.

Tina then asked Bette if perhaps they should consult a designer to assist them with the paint colors, and the fabrics in the furniture, drapes and the bed covers. Bette thought about it a moment and then asked if she didn’t trust the two of them to pick colors and things they liked.  Tina said with a designer, we still make the choices for the colors and the fabrics, but we have someone who goes out and finds what we want and gets it made to our house’s specification and makes arrangement for purchase, delivery and installation.  The designer has contacts and sources to get things which are exactly what we want rather than us searching for it.  Sure, it’s a little expensive but, we should be getting exactly what we want without wearing our shoes out looking for it or wrangling with contractors who are not performing to our expectations. And theoretically, we could have it sooner. Bette agreed she had a point. She was willing as long as they both were involved in making the final decisions and that someone wasn’t shoving something in front of them to buy which they had not approved.

Bette began to contemplate what Tina had suggested.  She was right, they simply will not have time to do all it will take to put this house together before Thanksgiving if they did not get some help. They were not as young as they once were and their time should not be spent finding the right drapery maker who could botch the job. This was going to be their home for a long time and Bette wanted it to be prefect for both them.

Bette:  Why don’t you give a call to Helena and Dylan and see if they can recommend someone. I’m sure someone worked for Peggy here in the LA area and I know she was no pushover as to what she wanted in décor. And if that person can make Peggy happy, surely, she can make us happy.
