    Chapter 3 – Lets Make a Deal

Bette:  Tina, this car is the same color as your hair.  It’s beautiful!

Tina:  Wow, it is a nice-looking vehicle.  Very California like. Can we take it for a test drive?

Salesman:  Sure, let me put in the floor protectors from the shop.

Tina:  Bette, maybe you should test drive this one.

Bette:  No, Tina.  I can drive anything. And I know as long as you are satisfied, I’ll be satisfied also.

    Tina:  Okay, let’s go.

Bette, Tina and the salesman got into the car and took about a 10-minute drive. Tina really like the way this car handled.  Upon returning to the lot, Tina gave a nod to Bette indicating that this was a good car for them.

Bette:   Okay, we will take this one as well.  Now what can you do for us?  Cash deal, we can have insurance company confirm insurance within the hour.

Salesman:  Come to my office and I will make you an offer. May I get you something to drink? Coffee or soda or water?

Tina:  Coffee would be nice.  Why don’t you just point to the coffee pot and we will help ourselves while you talk to your manager?

Bette:  Tina, are you comfortable with purchasing these two cars?

Tina:  I love these two cars.  They are going to be great on gas mileage. They are going to be relative economical to operate and they are priced way below our budget. This is basic transportation. We don’t plan to live in them, do we?

Bette:  Yeah, to think we might get two cars for the same price as one year for Angie’s tuition.

They both got their coffee and returned to the salesman’s office. The salesman was gone another 10 minutes during which they got a call from Kit.

    Bette:  Hey Kit, what’s up?

Kit:  There have been several deliveries for you and Tina this morning. There is one from North Carolina, one from Pennsylvania, one from the state of New York and one from the state of California.

Bette:  Really?  That’s great Kit.  Those are our birth certificates, marriage licenses, adoption certificates and all the documents we need to get our driver’s licenses.

Kit:  Well, I also got a delivery today also from Dad’s old law firm.  They sent me all those documents you requested.  Now, I have not had a chance to read them yet. There is a bunch of them here.

    1. Collins,
Isn’t that the way life is? Lots of things going on which requires multi-tasking? My Bette and Tina are on the same page… they have been working at it for more than 20 years. They know what irritates and what soothes the other. They know they have responsibilities for their children. And most of all, they love their choices they have made in life – each other as partners, their professions, and their role as parents. This is a summer of change for these two. New professions, new home and a some what different family structure. The transition from their New York life to a life in California is full and getting Angie ready for Yale is thrown into the mix. Time is limited and what needs to be accomplished is much. And these two women will get it done…

      Thank you for reading.
