    Chapter 3 – Lets Make a Deal

The salesman looked at Bette and Tina and invited them back into his office.  On the way back, Bette told him that they were going to go to another dealership to buy a 2nd car.  The salesman’s eyes got wide.

Salesman:  Before you do that, we have just received yesterday another Ford Fusion which might interest you. It’s a 2019 with 12,500 miles on it.  It’s a white gold metallic in color with beige leather interior. The 2019 is only slightly different from the 2018 model.  We have not had the opportunity to photograph this car and put it on the internet. Are you interested in looking at this one?

Bette:  Can I get a car history on this car and what is your asking price?

Salesman:  Sure, the dealership gets one on every used vehicle we sell. So, if we have one, it will be dated as of yesterday. Otherwise, we will order one and print it out for you. And I will have to check with the manager on the sales sheet information and I’ll get the keys.

Tina:  Owooo.  White gold metallic?  Sounds like a wonderful color. I think we need to take a look at it.

Bette:  Not until we see the car history.  The mileage is so low, why is it on the market?  A possible wreck? We don’t want a car that was in wreck or a flood area or in a fire. We do not need the head ache of repairs and maintenance.

The salesman returned with the car history – one owner, 12,500 miles, with all the similar features as the 2018 they were about to purchase.

Bette:  Well, this looks good?  What are you asking for this car?

Salesman:  It is a little pricier. It’s a newer model and has lower mileage. We are asking $18,500 for it.  But if we can sell it before we put it on the internet, we can come down at least $500.  And if you buy both cars for cash?  Then we can probably give you a package deal.

Tina:  Well then let’s take a look.

The salesman led the two to a lot on the backside of the dealership where the new arrivals were. The car had just been washed and vacuumed out and was in line to be photographed.

    1. Collins,
Isn’t that the way life is? Lots of things going on which requires multi-tasking? My Bette and Tina are on the same page… they have been working at it for more than 20 years. They know what irritates and what soothes the other. They know they have responsibilities for their children. And most of all, they love their choices they have made in life – each other as partners, their professions, and their role as parents. This is a summer of change for these two. New professions, new home and a some what different family structure. The transition from their New York life to a life in California is full and getting Angie ready for Yale is thrown into the mix. Time is limited and what needs to be accomplished is much. And these two women will get it done…
