    Chapter 3 – The Gift

“Talk about moody. Are you worried that she’s so stressed about getting married?”

The thought if she should be worried had crossed Bette’s mind a few times over the last few days. Tina seemed out of sorts. Bette didn’t doubt Tina’s love for her but maybe the wedding was too much too soon. She didn’t want to admit this to Angie but wondered how to answer her daughter without her being able to see through Bette’s concern. She often thought back to the day Angie found her crying on the couch, and how the teenager knew that the then finality of the loss of Tina had finally shattered her. But Bette’s attention to Angie’s question was taken over by the bubbly blonde that bounced to her side.

“Hi there, mom!” Angie was amused at now seeing this side of Tina today.

“Hi honey! Here.” Tina handed Angie a small blue gift bag. “From us to you.”

Angie looked at her mothers both beaming with love towards her. She took out a small velvet box and checked the bag for anything else before throwing it on the floor. Each of her moms had a habit of adding extras to her gifts.

Bette hugged Tina from behind, letting Tina lean her weight against Bette’s body. Tina ran her hands over Bette’s arms, before resting them just under her own chin, an unconscious confirmation that she was ok. They watched Angie open the box and pull out the necklace.

“Oh my god. Guys!” Angie’s eyes darted between her mothers as she took a deep breath. ”But these are your rings.”

Tina could only nod as she felt the lump in her throat cause her eyes to sting. “Yea,” she was able to mumble.

Bette kissed the back of Tina’s head before going over to Angie. She took the necklace and held the rings between her fingers for a second before opening the clasp to put the necklace on their daughter.

“Yep. We knew we wanted new rings to signify this new chapter for us and neither of us could ever part with our first wedding bands…”

“I know. You always wore yours around your neck.”

“I-I didn’t know that.” Tina couldn’t stop a tear from falling when she looked at her girls.
