Chapter 31 – Off to New York

Bette and Angie went to the bar and started wrapping things in plastic wrap in stacks where they could. They took the stack of plates and wrapped them tightly in the plastic wrap. The flatware had been sorted in a flatware basket. It was warped. The bowls were nestled, the pots were nestled and then all warped tightly together. The kitchen utensils, the knives and cutting board were all warped into tight small packages. Bette grabbed the framed photo and wrapped it in plastic wrap. There was an alarm clock which was wrapped. Then Bette began to pack the trunk. Bette was pleased that all the kitchen things and the photo fit into the first trunk. She asked for the album and put it in and there was still room for a little more. Bette piled the kitchen towels, the mitts along with four wash cloths and four face towels. She was put in two large bath towels before she closed the lid. She asked Angie to look around and see if there was anything else that needed to be packed on the bar or in the sink area. Everything had been included. Mary brought up a basket of sheets and blankets which were to be packed. Bette told Angie to go ahead and put the pillow protector and the pillow case on both pillows. The saved the plastic bags the pillow came in and put that on the pillows. Bette then put them both into a box. The added one blanket and that box was full. In the second box, they put the bedspread which doubled as an addition blanket, a blanket and one set of sheets in a lovely lilac color. The extra blanket and the second set of sheets and the rest of the towels went into the trunk. The two boxes were labeled “bed”. Bette then asked Angie to go get her winter heavy coat and her bathrobe. And if she had a snow suit she wanted to take, it looked like there was room. There was room for a little more, but they decided to stop here and close it. Bette put a piece of shipping tape on the first trunk. And left the other one as is. They quickly picked up all the trash and bagged and put the bags into the hall.
