Chapter 31 – Off to New York

Tina received a call from the doormen and said the food was on its way up. Tina requested that they come to the 7th floor entrance.

Bette then reviewed the bed again and then helped Angie load a box for each drawer but included the excess sweaters for the shelf storage. They were taping up the boxes and labeling it chest and a drawer number when Tina called them to lunch.

Bette: Angie, what about your jewelry and personal documents and emergency cash? Do you have an appropriate container for that? We can put those in the 2nd trunk and lock it up for transportation.

Angie: Well, I might want to wear some jewelry to Hamilton, but everything else is ready to pack.

Bette: Okay, after lunch we wrap the rolling carts in plastic and put them in the kids lounge. Let’s do that before we take a nap. The only thing that should be left in this room should be the boxed items going to Santa Monica. Everything else should be in the lounge ready to move to New Haven. We are making some good progress Kido. Let’s go eat lunch.

Angie:  Yeah, it’s becoming real now. The way we have packed should make unpacking a breeze.

Bette: Those are nice bikes Angie. I hope Suzanne appreciates hers.

Angie:  Do you think that was a mistake?

Bette:  No, I think it was rather thoughtful. You just want to be careful that she doesn’t come to rely on you as a resource. You want to be friends for who you are not because of what you can do for her. You are very level headed young lady. You’ll know what to do.

Angie: Thanks Mom. I appreciate all your help.

They all went and washed their hands and then joined Tina in the kids lounge. Tina was setting out large tins which were covered and a bottle of ketchup. Bette went to the fridge and go out some beers and some soft drinks for the group.

Angie:  Oh, Mom, burgers! Are these like the ones we had in July?  Oh, these are a real treat.

Tina:  Well, we have been at it for a few hours and we are planning a light dinner. So, a nice burger and fries should hold you until then.
