Chapter 31 – Off to New York

Daniel:  Yeah. Best burger I believe I have ever eaten.

Tina: Well, I made a lot of effort to make that. My fingers are just worn to a nubbin. Dialing that number and ordering… Whew… hard work.

Mary: I’ll relieve you tomorrow if you wish.

Bette:  No, it’s my turn. I’ll bring it back when we get finished with our closing.

Tina:  Oh, remind me to get our schedule to take with us so Marilyn will know when she can have access. I emailed it to her. But I want her to have an actual piece of paper. And let’s remember to give her a key. We will leave all our keys on the counter when we leave on Saturday morning. Kids, turn in your keys for this apartment by Friday. We may be back but only for a few minutes on Sunday. Then it’s off to the airport. Okay, I’m ready. Come on team. Put your trash away and I’ll wipe the table.

Bette: Angie, help me with this plastic wrap. Let me grab a knife and we are on our way.

Bette and Angie put the wrap on the bed. They put some empty hangers in one of the boxes and began to tape them up and mark them “chest” and a drawer number. That way anyone could empty the box and Angie could go back and arrange the drawer like she wanted. They then began to wrap the first rack. Bette started the wrap at the top while Angie and she walked around and around the rack over-lapping the previous piece and going down the rack. Their final two rounds they hooked onto the floor board above the wheels. It took them about thirty minutes.

Angie:  Wow… that thing was heavy. I need a little break.

Bette: Well, let’s carry these boxes out that are going to the New Haven stack. Then let’s push this cart out and put it next to the boxes. I’ll put this box going to Santa Monica on these other boxes.

Angie: Okay, we haven’t locked the trunks, yet, have we?

Bette:  No. I just taped the first on shut so we would know that it was full. There is a little more room in the other one. But once you put your valuables in, you need to lock it. You do have 2 keys for both of them, don’t you?
