    Chapter 32 – More Packing

Bette:  Well, she is anxious to see you and Angie.  And she wants to meet Mary too.

Mary: I seem to be rather popular among your friends.

Tina: Everyone wants to know the woman who gave birth to Bette Potter and Paris Southerland. They know most everyone else’s family and they want to know you as well.

Bette: Marilyn has been in our life for about 12 years now. She and Peggy had a fling back in 1974 and then went their separate ways. They married men and had children. And in 2008, they met again by pure accident. Both had adult children and were widows. They renewed their friendship and decided they wanted to be married to each other. They married in 2009 and lived together until Peggy died some 18 months ago. Peggy and I met in the art world and she became my mentor and friend. She basically adopted me as a second daughter. And she adopted my family as a part of her own. And when Marilyn came back into her life, we were another part of her extended family. Peggy and Marilyn became the kid’s grandmother when they were young. And then we found you. So, they have another grandmother. And as far as I am concerned, no one can have too many grandmothers.

Mary: And who is Peggy’s daughter?

Tina: Helena. You met her and Dylan her wife on Friday. They are who we planned to live with if we had any delays in finding a house. They are a part of our extended family. But the road to our current friendship has not been easy. Helena has a good heart and Dylan has calmed her and keeps her grounded. And they too look upon Marilyn as a second mother. I feel like Marilyn is my mother as well. She is a very comfortable person to be with.

Bette: So, we want to take this opportunity for you to meet the kid’s other grandmother.

Mary: Helena, the Brit? She is rather attractive. All your friends are attractive, but she stands out in a crowd.

Bette: Yes, she does. But if we go to Scotland next summer, you will be able to get to know all these people a little better. They are individually so unique but as a group, they are the salt of the earth good folks. I’m so glad we are all going to be living in the Los Angeles area. We had a good life in New York. But I miss my friends and my extended family.
