Chapter 32 – More Packing
Whit: Okay, here is the closing statement. Marilyn, you are the purchaser and Bette and Tina are the sellers. Helena sent me the appraisal and the formula on how the purchase price would be reached. I will attach a copy of the appraisal and the computation of the purchase price. I hope you have reviewed all of this prior to this meeting?
Marilyn: I am pleased with the purchase price.
Bette: It’s a good deal for both of us. And without all the backbiting negotiations.
Whit: Okay, all funds will be electronically transferred. All of you will sign off that you have no agent for which you owe a commission for this transaction and that you will hold each other harmless should someone make a claim for payment. If everything looks satisfactory, let us start to sign the documents. Ellen, would you assist Bette and Tina. I will assist Marilyn.
Ellen returned the IDs to each owner and then sat next to Tina and had her start the process. Tina signed and then initialed each page. Then Bette signed and initialed each page and then handed a set to Marilyn. There were four sets of documents. One for Marilyn, one for Bette and Tina, one for Whit’s file and one to file in the property records.
After that, Tina presented the Medical Power of Attorney for Angie and Marilyn signed it. Ellen made about 10 copies. They gave Marilyn three copies. They also gave Marilyn a key to the apartment and the schedule of their move out. Marilyn agreed that there would be no rent provided she had full access by September 15th. Bette and Tina promised all their things would be out by September 7th and on their way to Santa Monica. Marilyn hoped to be a resident of her Madison Avenue apartment by the end of September. All the drapes, window treatments and appliances would remain with the exception of the washer and dryer, the television and the computers and related equipment. Bette reminded Marilyn that there was a small fridge and an ice machine behind the bar in the children’s lounge which would stay. Marilyn thanked them for that as it made moving in easier. She just needed to decide what furniture she was going to take from the Peabody apartment and what she would leave for Helena and Dylan to deal with.
