    Chapter 32 – More Packing

Tina got out of the car while Bette talked to the driver. He gave her his number to call when the meeting was over. He refused the tip as he said he was being paid by the law firm.

They arrived at the offices and were ushered into a conference room where Marilyn was waiting on them.  Bette and Tina hugged Marilyn and were truly glad to see her.

Bette: You are looking rather well. How have you been?

Marilyn:  Well, I have been out to Oregon to visit my boys and my four grandchildren. Growing like weeds, they are. Summers are just not as long as they once were. But I think that’s just a sign of age. How has your summer gone?

Bette:  We have been busy. But I think we have accomplished everything we intended to do including finding a new home in Santa Monica.

Marilyn: Oh, how wonderful. And Angelica? Is she ready for that move to New Haven?

Tina: Yes, she seems to be ready. I think we have everything just about ready to make that move on Saturday.

Marilyn: That soon. Wow. I guess that’s right as next Monday is Labor Day. That is sort of the last official day of summer.

Bette:  Yes, I have to report to work on Tuesday, so summer is officially over.

Whit walk in with his assistant and several file folders. Having had dealings with all of them at some point in his representation of Peggy, he greeted them like old friends.

Whit: Well, I am glad to do this piece of legal work. Nothing like something happy to distract you from the woes of my general practice. We are here to close on an apartment 6-C in the Peabody building at 423 Madison Avenue. Nice neighborhood. Near Central Park and the Plaza Hotel. Since this is an all-cash deal, there isn’t so much paper work. Now I am here representing Marilyn Stockman-Peabody. Bette and Tina, if you need your own representation, we need to stop here.

Bette: No Whit. I trust Marilyn and I trust you to conform the documents to our wishes. I believe we are ready to close and we will pass on obtaining legal representation at this time.

Whit: Now, for legal purposes, may I have your photo IDs for the files. I know all of you and this should not be necessary, but we need to apply the rules to everyone. Ellen if you will make copies?  Thank you.
