    Chapter 32 – More Packing

Angie: Grammercy Park is too far to walk, Mama B.

Bette:  We will take two cabs. Three of us in one and two in another. We need to be comfortable and it’s too late to arrange a car.

Bette and Tina listened to Daniel and Angie as to the progress they had made so far today. They had moved to the main level and thought that almost everything would be complete except for the laundry room, the pantry, the storage room and the baths and powder room on the main floor. Of course, the master suite still needed to be completed as well. Bette and Tina were surprised with the progress.

Mary: Okay, team let’s get started on this level. We will work until 3. Then nap and dress for dinner and be back down here by 6:00.

Tina: Sounds like a plan. Bette, you’re with me. Do we have some more boxes and garbage bags?

Angie: Why don’t you guys takes these boxes which are already together. We will put some more together. Dan? Is there another box of garbage bags?  Could you get them for Mom?  And then let’s make some more boxes.

Mary:  Here, let me help you dear. You hold and I’ll tape the joints shut.

Bette and Tina took the boxes into the room and set them aside.

Bette: Let’s do the shoes and purses first. Keepers in the box and charity in the bag. Start with my closet since you seemed to have already packed yours up.

Tina: You sort. Keepers, drop into this box and charity into the laundry basket. Once the basket is full, I’ll dump into bag and get you an empty basket.

Bette sorted quickly until her shelves were empty of shoes and bags. More than half went to charity. Then she told Tina not to tape the boxes up, but push them aside so she could go through them once more to make a final cut. She then hauled the charity bags to the living room. They then started through the chest of drawers. That contained sweaters, belts, and winter clothing. Bette kept some of it, but most went into the charity bags. They then folded and put ones which were keepers into a box. They then started through the chest which was in the bedroom. It contained panties, bras, hosiery, pajamas, t-shirts, shorts, older jogging suits, yoga pants and tank tops. About half went into the charity bags. And when they finished packing the keep things, they taped up the boxes and moved them to the wall.
