Chapter 33 – Days of Fun and Then New Haven
Angie: Tuesday also starts Rush week for the Greeks. We might check that out.
Suzanne: I’m not much of a football fan, but I might get my student tickets to the Yale home games. But I wouldn’t want to go to the game by myself.
Angie: I hadn’t thought about football season. Is every student entitled to purchase some student tickets?
Suzanne: Yes, but they need to be purchased when you complete your registration process on Tuesday. I think it’s a hundred dollars for the season. That’s five home games for one student admission to the student section. All the other tickets are sold through the athletic department. And they are significantly more expensive and harder to get. You have to have some kind of connections to be put on the list to be invited to purchase tickets. And Yale is not exactly a premier football school.
Mary laughed: Well, as long as they beat Harvard, they are considered to have a winning season.
Bette: Wow, Mom, I’m impressed. You know more about college football than most.
Mary: Your father taught me that. Of course, he was on the other side of the fence. He was a Harvard man through and through.
The appetizers and the wine were served. The waiter then took their main course order. Daniel decided that he wanted the ribs with garlic and leak mash potatoes and some sauteed spinach. Mary ordered the salmon with rice and mix vegetables. Angie and Suzanne ordered the steak and lobster with potatoes and broccoli. Bette and Tina had the chateaubriand for two, cooked medium rare with mixed vegetables and broccoli. They decided to omit the carbohydrates in favor of a dessert.
The conversation continued as the family enjoyed their food and each other’s company. The conversation centered on Angie and Suzanne. Bette talked to them about the emergency box of supplies and advised them not to get into the box unless it truly was an emergency. If by spring break, there had been no need, they may want to check the expiration dates of the food and replace those items. Bette assured them that she made sure that all expiration dates were somewhere in the 2 to 3 years into the future. Tina reminded them that the greatest danger would be the loss of electricity for several consecutive days. And should they need to make use of the emergency supplies, they should restock their supply as soon as practical. It should be a top priority. Bette then suggested that they include their suite mates in sharing their supplies. They should also remember to use up whatever was in the refrigerator first as it was most likely to spoil. Consume that which will spoil quickly first.
