Chapter 35 – Labor Day and More

Bette could not resist. She wanted to see the Murphy bed when it was ready for use. Bette began the process of pulling the bed out. To their surprise, the bed was easy to lower to the floor and the foot support snapped into place easily. The bed weight was supported by a pair of pistons which controlled the weight so that the operator would be safe in pulling the bed out or putting it away. The cabinet was a lovely Alden stain and looked like aged oak. The mattress was a queen size mattress and the bed was made up with the exception of the pillows. Bette laid down on the mattress.

Bette: This is comfortable T.  This is a beautiful piece of furniture. And look, some recessed lights for reading or whatever.

Tina:  It is nice looking. Come on, let’s put this up and see the rest of the place. Nice bedspread. The pillows are in these cabinets. Nice. And it’s easy to handle. But you know. I could have just napped on the couch. And Jim decided I need a big screen television as well. I may never turn it on.

Bette: Well, I want you to be comfortable. Just make sure you come home in the evening.

Tina: Don’t worry Babe. I will. This is a work space not my home.

Bette:  Nice set-up.  Jim has good taste.

Tina:  Wait until you see my office. It’s nicer than what I had in New York.

Bette: Really? Let’s go take a look.

The bedroom door went into the break room which was a kitchen. It had a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and a cooktop and hood. The appliances were not huge but more than adequate for of three or four people. The cabinets were a beautiful oak color. The countertop was a nice stone and there was a table and chairs which seated six easily. Bette looked in the cabinets and saw a rather ordinary set of everyday plates and glass ware. It was a nice reasonably equipped kitchen. Tina could make a meal but did not have all the accessories she had collected over the years in her New York kitchen.

Bette:  This is nice Tina. Now, let’s see your office.
