Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach

In the evenings, Bette and Tina dealt with the bills, and began to pack up some of the beach house in preparation for the move on Sunday. They talked to Angie on Monday night. She and Suzanne were concentrating on their classes. It seems that they were not particularly attracted to the Greek party scene. They attended two parties and decided that was not anything that particularly interested them. They were beginning to form their own study groups. Suzanne was interested in medicine so her study group was a group of 3 guys and 3 girls who were similarly motivated. Angie was formulating several different study groups – one for her literature studies, one for the math and science studies, and one for the social sciences, political and business courses. Suzanne had a job in the student union assisting in food prep. Angie said that she and Suzanne were pretty much leading separate lives. They were seeing each other in the evening when they did their homework and sleeping and they would see each more on the weekend. They were getting along fine but they definitely were roommates in the purest sense of the word.

Bette believed that for the first week, this was a good report. Angie was getting along with her roommate but was beginning to form relationships with other people for other purposes. And the Greek life seemed to be a non-issue. But Angie had not said that yet. So, Bette waited to count on that as a fact.

Bette realized that she and Tina had an appointment with Aspirant LLC on Friday.  She made a call to reschedule that appointment to the following Friday as it look like the move was a much higher priority.

Tina had called Jim and gotten an update on the progress at the Santa Monica house. Jim reported that everything was going extremely well and that they actually hoped to have the house ready to move into as soon as Friday morning. He asked if it were possible to do an inspection on Friday and get a check for phase one of this project. Tina agreed that she and Bette could meet them at house at 9:00 am to do a final walk through. They expected the movers from New York early on Saturday morning. They would appreciate it if Jim would be at the house to assist in the furniture placement. This would be day one of phase two of this project. Jim said he would be thrilled. He also mentioned that he would need a deposit for phase two since he had already picked out the fabrics for the window treatments and was ready to order those if Bette and Tina were ready review and proceed. This was thrilling to Tina. They would meet on Friday for that as well. Tina immediately called Bette and discussed their Friday schedule. Jim had said that the mattresses would arrive late morning on Saturday and the patio furnishings would arrive midafternoon on Friday. That furniture would include their furnishings for their sun room which would serve as their family dining area. So, by Saturday evening, there would be a place for everyone to sleep and a place for everyone to sit and eat. By Sunday at noon, all their possessions would be in their new home in Santa Monica. That is except for the washer and dryer which would be install at Tina’s studio.
