Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach

Tina: Well, Daniel is responsible when it comes to his school work. And I think John David is just as serious about his. Besides Daniel is working right now as we speak with the goal of having most of his work done by the time the weekend gets here.

Bette:  Yeah, well that would solve one of my problems. I would not have to pick Daniel up on Friday afternoon. Now, if I could take Daniel over to the Wilkins along with his luggage, then he could ride with John David to school. I could take him to their house and then we could go to the house and meet with Jim?

Tina:  Yeah, that might work. But you may have to take him a little earlier. Barbara is a teacher and she probably has to be at school earlier than the students do. Does Joey attend the school where she teaches?

Bette:  I don’t know. He is in middle school. I would hope so. But he may be in a school of concentrated study as well.

Tina:  I got the impression from Barbara that John David was a lot more interested in his studies than Joey is. Joey seems more like the typical teenager and sees school as good for social contacts rather than for education.

Bette:  Well, I’m not looking forward to that in Daniel. But I am sure we will face it at some point.

Tina:  Every child is different.  I can’t imagine Daniel will ever put his top reason to go to school is to be with his friends.

Bette:  Okay, do you want to call Barbara and see if we can work out the delivery of Daniel and his weekend bag on Friday? Or do we want to call Daniel and see if he is even interested first?

Tina: Let’s discuss it with Daniel first. It’s two baseball games. That’s big-time stuff here in LA.

Bette: And when you talk to Barbara, ask her what would be a gift that Joey might like for his birthday.

Tina:  Oh, yeah, it’s Joey’s birthday celebration. I’ll call Daniel to come down, he needs a break anyway.

Daniel came to the media room and discussed the weekend outing purposed by Barbara Wilkins. He was over the moon. He wanted to know who was playing and all about the teams. Bette and Tina said they really didn’t know much about it. Then they discussed the logistics of getting Daniel’s weekend bag to the Wilkins if he rides home with them from school so they were going to talk to Barbara about that. While he was sitting there, Tina went ahead and called Barbara. After the discussion, Daniel was to be at the Wilkins home at 7:00 am and Daniel would get his breakfast at school as they would be there by 7:30. Daniel was fine with that. He needed to pack his bag for the weekend on Thursday night. And on Sunday, either Bette and Tina could come and get him or the Wilkins would deliver him to their new Santa Monica home.
