Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach

Bette and Tina were truly excited about this move. Everything was coming together and working out perfectly. Bette really wanted to go see the house, but Tina wanted them to wait until it was completely cleaned up and ready to live in. It had worked out well for her studio and she did not want to jinx anything with respect to the house. So, Bette agreed to hold off on the house visit.

On Tuesday evening, Barbara Wilkins called Tina after dinner. Barbara thanked Tina for giving John David a wonderful weekend. He evidently had not stopped talking about what all they did. He was also very pleased that he was given his own bedroom and bath when he stayed over. At home he had his own bedroom, but he shared a Jack and Jill style bath with his brother. She went on to invite Daniel to come spend the weekend with John David. It was Joey’s birthday and Joe had managed to obtain six tickets to both Friday night’s game and Saturday afternoon’s game for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Joey was inviting a friend to go with him and John David wanted to invite Daniel. She suggested that Joe could pick-up John David and Daniel up at school and then they could come to her house and change clothes and go to the game. Daniel could spend the night. He and John David can do their homework on Saturday morning then go to the game with the rest of the family Saturday afternoon. Then she or Joe would be glad to bring him home sometime Sunday morning. Tina told Barbara that she would need to discuss it with Bette, but it sounded like something could be worked out. She would talk to Bette and then call her back.

Tina immediately told her what Barbara had to say. Bette was smiling.

Bette:  Well, does Daniel want to do this?

Tina:  I assume he does, but I have not talked to him about this yet. But if we don’t want this to happen, then there is not a whole lot to discuss.

Bette:  Well, it might be easier on him and us if he were out with John David rather than watching furniture being hauled out of a truck and into a house. There’s not much that can be done until the beds get set up and the boxes put in the appropriate rooms. Of course, I assumed that he would do his homework on Friday afternoon, but he will do it on Saturday morning, that’s okay with me.
