Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach

Bette: In reality Daniel, when you leave the beach house on Friday, morning, that will be the last time you will spend any time in it. I plan to turn over the keys on Monday, evening. In fact, your mama and me may spend our first night in the new house on Saturday night.

Daniel:  Oh wow… it’s really happening isn’t it.

Tina: Yeah, it is. We are going to have a lot to do. It is going to be busy, busy.

Bette:  Maybe I should get the packers for the beach house to come on Friday or Saturday.

Tina: Friday might not be a bad choice. If we don’t have a bed, we could always stay at the studio.

Bette smiled and as if a light came on and she liked the idea. Bette then walked out to find the number of the movers.

Bette: Looks like Friday is going to be a pack it up and move day for us. We now have plans, adjustments, and backup plans. Wonderful.

Daniel:  So, can I go Mom?

Tina:  Yes, son, you can go. But you must mind your peas and ques and behave. You will do whatever Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins ask of you.  If there is any problem in which you feel totally uncomfortable about, you give us a call no matter what time day or night. Your safety and well-being is our number one concern.

    Daniel:  What could go wrong?

Tina:  Well, suppose you get sick and you believe you need to come home. Just call. You get separated from the Wilkins family at the ballpark and you can’t find them. We would want you to call. Someone asked you to commit robbery, well we would expect you to call. That’s what I mean. And be careful around strangers. Make sure you use the buddy system when you are out in public. Do you understand?

Daniel:  Yeah, I get it. Nothing illegal and nothing which I really do not want to do.

Tina:  Exactly. Now, we have met Barbara and Joe and we have been to their home and they seem to be wonderful people. And I believe they are going to protect and take care of you just as we took care of John David. But anything that happens that seems odd or strange, do not hesitate to call us. We will do whatever we need to in order to straighten things out.
