Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach

Daniel:  I think I’ll be fine.

Bette came back in: The moving crew for the beach house would be here at 1:00 pm Friday and hopefully by 5:00 pm, we will be in our new home… but no beds.

Tina: So, we will be staying at the studio on Friday night?

Bette:  That or I can check us into a hotel?

Tina:  No, let’s stay at the studio. It has a kitchen and bathroom and we can get up early and be at the house early to meet the guys from New York. I will just have to put some covering over my paintings. No peeking.

Bette:  I hadn’t thought about that. No problem. You know that I am not going to even ask to see them until you are ready to show them to me. I hope you know that.

Tina:  I do trust you. But I am not going to take any chances either. I know you and art. It’s like drugs to a drug addict. You can resist, but the temptation is really powerful.

Bette:  You have a point. Do you want to help me fold these sheets? I wonder if John David’s bed needs to be made?

Tina:  Let’s do that as we go to our room. I will call housekeeping and tell them to come on Monday and give the house a complete cleaning as we will be vacating the place over the weekend.

Bette:  I am excited about this move. Everything all right with Daniel?

Tina:  Yeah, he’s fine. He’s excited about going to a couple of baseball games. Barbara seems happy too. And it couldn’t have happened at a more perfect time. Oh, and Barbara says absolutely no gift. Joey will get his gifts from his family on Sunday with that celebration. That is his birthday actually.

They finished up the laundry and then proceeded upstairs stopping by Daniel’s room to tell him goodnight. He was doing math problems.

Daniel: Wow, what time is it anyway?

Tina:  It’s almost 9:00 o’clock. We are going to bed. Don’t stay up too late. Okay?

Daniel:  I am trying to get ahead in some of my homework. I don’t want any homework over the weekend.

Bette:  Mrs. Wilkins says you and John David can do your homework together on Saturday morning on anything you haven’t finished. You should have a couple of hours if you don’t choose to sleep in.
