Chapter 39 – Moving Weekend
Charlie: What about this family room? Is it getting anything today?
Tina: No not today.
Charlie: Okay, let’s take the piano off the truck and put it into this family room. We will move it into place after we have all the master bedroom furniture moved in. We may need to set some of that library furniture to the side until we get all the boxes to the master we need to put in there. We need to keep a clear path for when we move the boxes in.
Tina: May I ask has anyone checked the weather for today?
Jim had just arrived and was being introduced to Charlie and his crew.
Jim: In answer to your question. It’s expected to be warm and clear for today. Possibly a good breeze coming off the ocean.
Bette quickly went over the plan with Jim. Jim thought it was a good plan and decided to go and get out of the way. Tina had excused herself and began the job of washing the workers clothing. Looked like it would be about 4 loads total and they should be able to repack sometime around 11:00 am.
The guys backed as close to the back door, removed the back door and the storm door and put it into the laundry room. They had removed all the boxes and they were all on in front of the garage doors. The piano came off first. Bette and Tina watched from the kitchen. It took all four of them to make sure that it was set on the floor on its side as it had ridden across country in its special saddle. The legs had been removed and were packaged underneath the thick quilts with were strapped on the piano. They would be attached once the piano was near its final resting place.
Charlie: Bette, you will need to get a piano tuner to come in and tune the piano. It has been through four days of travel through rather warm weather across this country. That has a tendency to affect the sound made by the strings. I think the hammers will be fine. We stabilized it from movement for the trip fairly securely. But we cannot control the temperature.
Bette: I had expected that. We will put that on our to do list.
