Tina hugged her son. She was so proud of him. He was a planner like Bette. Put things into a logical order and make it work was his motto.

Tina got out bottles of water and handed to Bette and asked Angie if she wanted one. She said yes. They then asked her if she wanted to talk in the living room or at the dining table.  She decided she would like to talk in the living room. So, they all went in and adjusted the lights so they were not bright but comfortably dimmed.

Bette:  Angie is everything okay?

Angie:  Everything is fine Mama. Physically I’m in good shape.

Tina:  Good, now what do you want to talk to us about?

Angie:  Well, Dr. Stanton and I had a long conversation about birth control and the various methods and devices. And if finally hit me why you two don’t know about birth control. I felt so dumb. I guess I never thought about it much. Two women don’t need birth control.

Tina: Yes, that’s one of the attributes of being a lesbian couple.

Angie:  However, when a woman has unprotected sex with a male there is always a possibility that a pregnancy can occur. Right?

Bette:  Right.

Angie:  I’m going to ask some pretty basic questions. So please be patient with me.  How do you know when you want to be in a relationship with someone?

Tina:  Bette why don’t you take this one.

Bette:  Okay, there are all kinds of relationship between people. Generally, the first of relationship any one experiences with someone other than family is friendship. You know what friendship is?  It’s when you enjoy being in the company of another person.  You like another person because they have qualities you like. They are friendly, they are comfortable to be around, they are smart, or clever, or they are funny. And of course, there is a range within being friends from mere acquaintances which is you know very little about them maybe just their name or you know them when you see them. And at the other end is close friends in which you have a bond. This bond is a feeling that they are important to your life and you will do almost anything to help them reach their goals and be happy.  An example of close friends are Aunt Alice, Aunt Shane, Aunt Helena and Aunt Dylan.  These people are not siblings to either Tina or me, but they are almost like siblings. With friends, there is no desire to express affection except same way you express affection to your family.  So, when you find someone who you like on a friendship basis and but you start to get a desire to hold their hand, to kiss them or to touch their skin or to be as close to them as possible or to be in their company constantly, then that is your body telling you that you are attracted to this other person. You are drawn to them. You experiencing an attraction. This is a person in which you wish to develop something more than just friendship but a romantic relationship.
