Chapter 5 – A Day with No Plans

Tina and Bette then proceeded to the kitchen to start dinner. Bette was peeling potatoes and carrots while Tina worked on the green beans and the meat loaf.

Daniel came in from a swim in the pool and asked for a snack. Bette made him a couple of peanut butter and banana sandwiches with a glass of milk.  Angie had been dealing with the laundry and studying most of the afternoon.  She announced that she thought she was ready.  In her last three practice test, her scores were above 95%.  Tina and Bette praised her for her work. If they could get past tomorrow’s visit to the California Department of Motor Vehicles and get the bank accounts set up, then a significant amount of their “to do list” would be complete.

Bette and Tina started to plan their Saturday.  They wanted to do something with the kids.  They would each be away from one of their children for a week.  This week had been busy with not much time for actually enjoying each other’s company. Bette and Tina had made time for themselves, and they had taken time to be with Angie, but they were feeling guilty about their lack of interaction with Daniel particularly.

Bette:  Daniel, we are going to have some free time on Saturday.  Is there something you would like to do on Saturday?

Daniel: Well, I would love to go hear some live music. I’d also like to do some fishing on the pier.  We didn’t get a chance when Jordan and Shay and Holly were here. There are also some new movies which are out for the summer that I would like to see.

Tina:  Wow, that’s quite a list young man.  We won’t have time to do all those things.  How about you do some research on concerts in the area and the movies you want to see and let us know what you have in mind.  Let’s put the fishing off until we get back from New York.

Daniel:  Cool…. I’ll get right on it.

Bette and Tina smiled. Daniel was always easy going and never seemed to be disappointed about anything.

Tina:  You know, he really enjoyed that night we went dancing.  He talked about that band for days.
