Chapter 5 – A Day with No Plans
Tina: Let’s think about this. We can make a decision after I get back from New York. Let’s let things stand just as they are with the agent until then. I want to think about this.
Bette: I’ll go get my passport.
Tina and Bette gathered their paper work for identification and for residency and put them into individual file folders and then a folder for proof of residency for each family member.
Bette then started to discuss the bank accounts they would need. Bette decided that there should be five accounts. One for each member of the family and then a general or master account which would receive all the revenues and would supply the other accounts with funds. It would also pay the expenses for the household would be run out of. Bette would pay expenses for her job and incidentals out of her designated account; Tina would buy her paints, supplies, canvases and other supplies from her account; Daniel would a debit card to make incidental purchases for school needs or personal needs; and Angie would have a debit card and checkbook to pay for her life at college. Both Bette and Tina would have signature on all accounts and Daniel and Angie would have signature on their individual accounts. In addition, Bette, Tina and Angie would get credit cards to make purchases. Angie’s card would have a limit of $5,000 and her parents would be able to review the charges and make payments on the account. Since all of these accounts would be paid by funds from Bette and Tina, they felt they need some ability to monitor how the card was being used. They were both in hopes to keep Angie’s spending to a reasonable amount. The credit card was for emergencies, such as a plane ticket home should the need arise or the replacement of her laptop if it should be damaged. The debit card would be for her groceries, entertainment, and other personal needs. Their plan was for Angie to have all the clothing, the equipment, the linens and school supplies necessary to get her through the winter, if not the first year of school. However, should Angie decide to join a sorority, then there would need to be an adjustment in her wardrobe and other related expenses.
