    Chapter 8

(Bette) Tina this is Alice, Shane and Dana

They all smile at her and offer enthusiastic greetings and Tina smiles back as she takes a seat on the couch next to Bette.

(Tina) Hi, it’s so nice to meet you all

Tina smiles across at Helena, sitting on another couch next to Alice.

    (Tina) Hi Hel

    Helena smiles at her.

Kit approaches their table and clears their glasses.

(Kit) How are we all doing tonight? Did you want me to sort out another round for you while I’m here?

(Bette) Kit why are you clearing glasses and taking orders? Don’t you pay people to do these things?

    Kit sighs and shrugs.

(Kit) We’re short-staffed tonight, what can you do

(Alice) Well another round would be great, just the same again

Alice points towards Bette and Tina.

(Alice) Not sure about Bette’s girlfriend there though, you’ll have to check with her

Bette shuts her eyes and cringes.

    (Bette) Jesus

    Shane shakes her head.

(Shane) Straight to it huh Al?

Tina looks over at Bette and smiles at her reaction, and then looks up at Kit.

(Tina) Hi, I’m Tina. I’ve heard a lot about you from Bette

    Kit smiles at her.

(Kit) I’ve heard about you too, it’s very nice to meet you

    They smile at each other.

(Kit) What can I get you?

(Tina) A gin and tonic please

    (Kit) Coming right up

Kit smiles at Bette and places her hand affectionately on her shoulder on her way past.

Bette looks over at Tina, looking at her for a moment and taking in her smiling eyes. Tina places her hand on Bette’s leg and moves her thumb reassuringly over her thigh as she turns her attention back to Alice.

(Tina) It’s Alice Pieszecki, isn’t it?

    Alice looks at her suspiciously.

    (Alice) Yes

    Tina smiles.

(Tina) I was sent an article of yours this week

    Alice’s face lights up.

    (Alice) Oh yeah?

Tina raises her eyebrows and nods.

(Tina) Yes, it was describing a bit of a scandal with the star of one of our upcoming releases

Alice gives an embarassed laugh and Tina smiles at her.

(Alice) Sorry about that, I know the one you mean

They smile at each other and Alice cringes.

(Alice) All publicity is good publicity?

    Comments

    1. Also very intrigued re: Helena’s response, “She’s not emotionally unavailable, by the way. So far from it actually. That’s the wrong description of her”. Hmm!

    2. This story is very intriguing… I’m just not sure about these two. It is obvious to everyone that these two are very much into each other… their behavior is very much into each other… but they keep going with this façade that this is just enjoying each other in the moment with no attachments and no commitments and no promises of any future. I do not know how much longer this can continue. Whether they admit it or not, they are truly connected and a sudden unavailability of one or the other would be devastating to both of them. So why not face the truth and admit this each other? This is a game at this point… time to chunk the rules of engagement and just be the people they are.

    3. It’s obvious they are both playing a game to protect their feelings for each other. Something’s coming up that will make them both admit how they truly feel. I really like this story a lot.
