Chapter 8
As they arrive at the bar Tina places her hand on her hip and turns to Helena.
(Tina) Aren’t you here to help me with Alice?
(Helena) Yes, why?
(Tina laughs) Well would you stop encouraging her? And what’s with the oversharing?
(Helena smiles) It’s harmless
Tina raises her eyebrows.
(Tina) It’s annoying is what it is
Helena laughs.
(Helena) Tina, if you’re looking to avoid her interrogating you generally, isn’t it better she focus on us? Something of no consequence?
(Tina smiles) Oh this is all for my benefit is it?
(Helena smiles) Of course
Tina raises her eyebrows.
(Tina) And you’re not at all enjoying making me uncomfortable?
(Helena laughs) I didn’t say that
Tina smiles and slaps her on the arm with the back of her hand, and they both turn to the bar.
(Helena) So, Tee, what are you drinking?
Tina turns to her and narrows her eyes, and Helena smiles. The bartender comes by and takes their order and they stand in silence for a moment.
(Tina) It’s just a nickname, it doesn’t mean anything
Helena smiles and raises her hands.
(Helena) Did I say anything?
Tina smiles and shakes her head.
(Tina) I know you well enough that you don’t have to
(Helena smiles) Hmmm, yes. Well I happen to know you pretty well too Tina
They share a look.
(Tina) We’re enjoying each other’s company, can we just leave it at that?
(Helena shrugs) No problem
They stand in silence for a moment while they wait for their drinks. Tina looks over at her.
(Tina) You weren’t of no consequence
Helena looks over at her and smiles.
(Helena) I know
They share an affectionate look.
(Helena) I’m always here, you know that don’t you? If you do want to talk about anything
(Tina smiles) I know
(Helena nods) Good
Meanwhile, at the table, Bette is lost in thought and smiling subtly to herself as she watches Tina across the room. She turns back to the table to find the other three all watching her quizzically. She frowns as she glances between them.
(Bette) What?
Alice has a sip of her drink and looks back at her.
(Alice) Nothing
Bette looks at her suspiciously.
(Alice shrugs) What? I have nothing to say

The lines are blurred. Very, very blurred.
Also very intrigued re: Helena’s response, “She’s not emotionally unavailable, by the way. So far from it actually. That’s the wrong description of her”. Hmm!
I love this story, thank again for another amazing post.
This story is very intriguing… I’m just not sure about these two. It is obvious to everyone that these two are very much into each other… their behavior is very much into each other… but they keep going with this façade that this is just enjoying each other in the moment with no attachments and no commitments and no promises of any future. I do not know how much longer this can continue. Whether they admit it or not, they are truly connected and a sudden unavailability of one or the other would be devastating to both of them. So why not face the truth and admit this each other? This is a game at this point… time to chunk the rules of engagement and just be the people they are.
I’m really enjoying this story. Thanks
Reading your stories is more pleasurable/addicting than eating chocolate
It’s obvious they are both playing a game to protect their feelings for each other. Something’s coming up that will make them both admit how they truly feel. I really like this story a lot.
